How to Set Up Windows Hello Face Recognition in Windows 10

Windows Hello is a more personal, more secure way to get instant access to your Windows 10 devices using fingerprint or face recognition.

Windows Hello, greets you by name and with a smile, letting you sign in without a password and providing instant, more secure access to your Windows 10 devices. Windows Hello introduces system support for biometric authentication – using your face, iris, or fingerprint to unlock your devices – with technology that is much safer than traditional passwords. You– uniquely you– plus your device are the keys to your Windows experience, apps, data and even websites and services – not a random assortment of letters and numbers that are easily forgotten, hacked, or written down and pinned to a bulletin board. Modern sensors recognize your unique personal characteristics to sign-you-in on a supporting Windows 10 device.

Starting with Windows 10 build 15007, Microsoft is bringing in some exciting improvements around how you discover and enroll into Windows Hello’s facial recognition. For devices and peripherals that support Windows Hello. you’ll now see a visual guidance that tracks your face in real-time, shows you an improved progress indicator and gives you real-time feedback to quickly and smoothly set your face up for signing in.

Hi, it could be relatively common - especially for laptop users- to see

The 'learn more' is particularly unhelpful here.

You've given some example cameras, but would be helpful to identify the criteria or approximate guidance.
People post attempted fixes for this without attempting to verify whether the specs are met.

    Example (not definitive alas)
Why is my laptop camera not compatible with Windows Hello Face? - Quora
    suggests
The camera has to be designed specifically with this technology in mind, Windows Hello has infra red emitters to facilitate authentication, within your skin and iris, I believe it’s also doing some 3d imaging, making it impossible a picture of you breaks into your computer
    Laptop camera?
Can Windows Hello be used on a laptop with the normal laptop camera? - Quora
    This is more specific
Unfortunately the answer is a “NO”. Windows’ new feature (HELLO) requires a special camera which demands “Intel RealSense technology”.Microsoft are very cautious at security. So a special camera is definitely required.

Would be helpful to add some info- at present it's badly handled by Windows.

    @dalchina,

I agree. There's really not a lot out there other than making sure the camera's specs for a desktop, laptop, tablet, etc... says it's Windows Hello compatible and supports Windows 10.

My first reaction to that message was 'Oh, there must be something wrong with my laptop camera' (supported by a recent weird experience applying for a bank account when I had to hold my passport up to the camera, and then stick my nose about 4" from the screen to satisfy their requirement to match an oval, and the picture for both was green!)

With another app it worked perfectly well.
