I kept getting the isofolder but not an iso file. I tried this on three other drives and not until I went back to the 'downloads' folder did it work and create an iso file. I looked at the other drives and could not see that I did anything differently. But, as you said, I did finally arrive at a successful outcome. Thanks, Kari. You have a lot to offer all of us!

Kari; Question Please;
How is it that some have the esd file downloaded to them and the latest release has just been announced.
Where do they download it from.
I was lucky to stumble on a link in a forum and since then have never been able to do it again.
Care to share where it comes from.
Thank You
Larry
At the moment the Build 10041 ISO images are freely downloadable from Microsoft: Download Windows 10 Technical Preview - Microsoft Windows
. To save some time with a smaller download, you can also download the ESD file in your preferred language and convert it to ISO following the instructions in this tutorial. A complete list of available Build 10041 ESD downloads can be found towards the end of this tutorial.
At the moment Build 10049 ISO and ESD files are not officially available. If you want a 10049 ISO, install 10041 and let it upgrade to 10049, then make the ISO as told in tutorial.
Hi Kari
as always appreciate your stuff
I'm using 10049 now -- seems a lot snappier than previous builds -
Update worked fine -- now am creating ISO.
Note though the ESD==>ISO works fine also from a VM (VMWARE) - not sure though if anything gets missed because of the fact I've built the ISO from a VM.
Watching "Footie" at the moment (Man Utd) so will try to create a NEW physical machine from the ISO I created using a VM.
Cheers

You can be 100% sure the ESD file is the same whether you got it by upgrading a physical machine or a virtual one, as will be the ISO file created from it.
The Windows ESD only contains the compressed and encrypted install.wim. When you machine starts downloading the ESD for upgrade, or if you download the ESD directly, not using WU upgrade, it really do not care if the downloading machine is real or not. The ESD will be the same, the WIM it contains will be the same, and the ISO created from it will be the same.
MS does not provide different install media for physical machines and virtual machines.
