The Quick Access Bar (QAB) is available on most, if not all, MS applications. I keep the ribbon minimized and add common functions to many apps.

The only drawback to QAB is that you cannot organize the icons - they remain in the order you add them. It would be better if you could drag them ala taskbar. If you plan your QAB, you can get it "just right" (until you decided to add something else - that gets tacked onto the end).

I'm sure there's a registry entry that controls the order, I haven't looked.

Here's my explorer QAB: Folder Options, Add to Favorites, Details Pane.

I had the Recycle Bin on Win8 but decided it was redundant (the desktop recycle bin). That's the cool thing about QABs - each user gets to decide how they want to access the feaures ... what is most convenient for them.

For me, QABs make Windows user friendly. I don't have to use up real estate for the ribbon and can still access the features/functions I use most. I never did like the ribbon - seems like an extra step to do anything if you keep it minimized.

I wrote this thread for WEMail over on SevenForums. The one thing people kept complaining about in WEMail was adding photos to an eMail - the default insert is a gallery. There is an add a single photo feature on the ribbon - I put that on my WEMail QAB so the default add gallery was easy to get around.

I'm with you there Bill, I always make use of the QAB but I was just surprised how many family members and friends didn't know how to empty their Recycle Bin after buying new PCs with W8 installed as there was no option 'where it used to be' (verbatim). They weren't even aware of the QAB so I spent quite some time explaining how to add the shortcut to several people, then just doing it myself as it was quicker. Hence the tutorial as it was one of the most asked questions I got for W8.

Can this be scripted via a registry file or another way?

    Hello Jerry, :)

If you like, you could use the method in the tutorial below to back up your QAT after setting it how you like, then be able to restore it on any computer or account.
