I just want to complete my last post:
    I have 2 PC, 1 with OS x86 and the other x64.
In x86 the Search within settings was working, in x64 was not working at all, I was getting msg I posted above.
Since some days I have been trying to fix it in x64 but no luck.
Today, suddenly it was working and the only major thins was Disabling Firewall for Public and Private, and also doing a Repair for LAN Adapter. I think this is incredible.

Search by means of Task Bar (WIN+S) in both Laptops are not working unless I have a Internet Connection active and no MS Blocked IP.

I used the Cortana off in the hopes it would disappear from my taskmanager, but it is still under there.

I play Everquest MMO and I have been getting 'out of memory. You may want to close some applications' message with Cortana running. So I need to do this, but the reg file doesn't appear to help. it is using about 38 megs of ram on my computer. I have 4 gigs, and need to lower usage of non-essential items.

    edit:

My gear is listed in my system specs here.

    edit 2:

    I have Win 10 Home.

    Hello Jim, :)

    This is normal.

This will only enable or disable Cortana the personal assistant, and not the Cortana process (SearchUI.exe) used by Windows Search.

    Hi,
Why Cortana icon replaced with Magnifier icon?
1- Allow Cortana is "not configured" in GPEdit
    2- Search works
    3- Microphone is enabled
    3- Screen Res: 1366*768
4- "Use small taskbar buttons" is disabled

    Hello Mr .:: Brink ::. :)
Thanks for guide to enable Bing search. I checked and there was not "BingSearchEnabled" key, I downloaded the key but no difference! My another question is why Cortana don't search hidden folder in Start Menu? I copied a folder that contains my portable apps shortcut, when I copy that folder to Start Menu folder [in ProgramData], Cortana lists that folder in Start Menu App List and Cortana search works but when I hide that folder [and hide from Start Menu App List, that I want to be hide in Start Menu App List] Cortana only shows my search result [for example, shows my portable app shortcut]but nothing work!!! when I click on portable app shortcut [that I put on that folder].
    Thanks.

Check to see if you may have another policy enabled that could be preventing Cortana to search the web.

The other question would be best asked in a new thread instead since it's not directly related to this tutorial.
