    Hi Shawn,

    I've just migrated to version 2009 (20H2), and I followed your tutorial to turn off the web result in Search, but there's no key named “Explorer” !???

    Do I have to create the “Explorer” key ?

    Thank You for your answer

    Jay B.
    Hello Jay,

    Correct. The "Explorer" key is not there by default. It has to be manually added to turn off.

    If you like, the .reg file from step 3 will do it all for you. Don't forget to do step 7 to apply though.

    Hello @Brink,

    I was just going through my .reg files and came across two that I have for this . . .

    Code:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search]
    "AllowSearchToUseLocation"=dword:00000000
    "BingSearchEnabled"=dword:00000000
    "ConnectedSearchUseWeb"=dword:00000000
    "CortanaConsent"=dword:00000000
    "DisableWebSearch"=dword:00000001
    Code:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer]
    "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions"=dword:00000001

    I assume that the bottom one is the one to be used and does everything that the top one does, is that correct please?

    Thanks.

    Hello @Paul Black,

    Correct. The bottom one is the latest version since Microsoft separated Cortana and Search.

    Thank you. Would the second one still apply to v1909, or should the first one be used please?

    The current second one should work in versions 1909, 2004, 20H2, and higher.

    Anything older, you would want to use the first one.
