FYI: Winaero has a PowerShell script to use firewall blocking:

Disable Web Search in Taskbar in Windows 10 Version 2004

    (Not tested by me.)
Thank you for posting this link, it worked for me. Search results appear much faster now. By the way, I didn't need to reboot the machine, restarting Explorer was enough.

Forgive me for the off-topic rant, but Microsoft should re-implement an on/off toggle for web results, or at least show internet queries on Web tab only. Guess Redmond want to shove Bing down Windows users' throats, if I wanted web results I would use a browser to do so.

I'm no where near as experienced as some of you folk. I'm on Win 10 (1909), and I just disabled web search in WinAero Tweaker. Worked fine for me.

Maybe someone can test in May 2004 update.

No need to use a 3rd party program when you can do it using the tutorial with built-in settings on the first post.

Manually adding the DWORD (and rebooting/signing out) didn't work, but applying your regkey did the trick, thank you Shawn. I stand corrected, this is definitely a superior solution to the PowerShell script, as the Web tab is removed altogether from the search box.

I noticed the OP post mentions this tutorial is no longer compatible with 1909. I went out on a limb, as I'd done this reg modification (or something quite close to it?) on 1803 back in the day. Got a new system with 1909, applied the *.reg file, and it's...seemingly working.

I've rebooted twice and it's kept on working.

    Is this lucky behavior?

Great news. We'll have to see if others report the same.

Perfect. I added 1909 to the notes at the top of the tutorial.

    Hi Shawn,

I've just migrated to version 2009 (20H2), and I followed your tutorial to turn off the web result in Search, but there's no key named “Explorer” !???

Do I have to create the “Explorer” key ?

    Thank You for your answer
