This doesn't work on version 1909 (Build 18363.693). I want to activate it but no chance.
    Can anyone else confirm/disprove this?
Used Step 3 download. Worked for me right away ! Did it on someone else's brand new laptop yesterday too, same result.
Like others said, I can always search in browser, now search focus is on files and apps

I submitted a feedback on the Feedback Hub; if enough people upvote it, there is a chance Microsoft will enable this feature again with an option to toggle it on/off, so people who don't like it can disable it and people like me, who found it useful can continue to use it. Check it out here: Feedback Hub - Windows Insider

I found the .reg files in this tutorial work and that you need to enable the web search for Cortana to work if web search results had been turned off.

The thing is, that when I updated Windows 10, in the new version (1909) the web search feature was disabled already. I didn't manually disable it and the reg files here didn't do anything what so ever. I wonder if anyone can reactivate this feature on 1909.

Try the firewall approach I suggested above.

So I added and changed the registry values manually and it worked! I don't know why the registry file provided here didn't
work, but I'm super happy that I still can use this feature.

The turn on .reg file deleted most of the values since they are not there by default. I updated them to set the values to "1" instead, so it should work now.

Not working for Windows 10 Spring 2020 update

Instructions followed to the letter. However, it still works fine for Windows 10 Fall 2019 update.
