Hi Callender and Paul,
Thank you very much for your so kind help on this.
This issue has cost too much of my time. I have finnally fixed it now by reinstalling the system.
Reinstallation takes much less time than troubleshooting, as the old saying goes.
I am getting this error when I try do do the update. I ran the above update reset .bat script to no avail. I started the recommended services in services.msc. Windows Update, Background Intelligent Service.
What to try next?
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80073701)

This is what I got also.
Anyway, still getting 80073701 error
Hello @dictum,
Just to confirm, did you already try to manually download and install the MSU file for the latest version below?
KB5017308 Windows 10 19042.2006, 19043.2006, 19044.2006
When I try to do the manual install of the above, I get this:
- - - Updated - - -
despite the error message, it installed and rebooted. However I am still stuck at this (for the last several months).
after that I run (ad admin) WuReset.bat (multiple times and reboots), also to no avail, still getting the same error mesg:

Hello @dictum,
Are you able to install the KB5017380 update?
KB5017380 Windows 10 19042.2075, 19043.2075, 19044.2075
No telemetry
but I have another machine identically configured, hardware and software
with no issues.
I suppose you could see if doing a repair install may fix it.
