    Thanks!

I was indeed signed on to an administrator account, I did find a way around the file not running after dealing with the UAC, it has something to do with the profile that I was on having something wrong with it. It's been that way for a while and I do not know how to fix it, it also caused me some issue when I tried to run a game (it couldn't open the anti-cheat).

I tried running the BAT file in a different account, this time the policy update went through but it the third [SC] failed. Everything else I believe ran as it should.

Another thing I forgot to mention, after [SC] OpenService FAILED 5: it also says Access is denied. if that helps.

If the BAT file was able to fully finish running and prompt you to restart the computer, then it has ran as it should.

It's normal to get a few errors during the process.

Hopefully, it was able to fix your Windows Update issue.

If not, then you could try a repair install of Windows 10 below.

Unfortunately I just repaired the OS and I lost the stuff on my SSD (primarily just applications I can slowly redownload). Thanks anyways and especially for still responding on your thread years later to help people like me who have no idea what to do!

I'm sorry to hear that. Did it at least fix your Windows Update issue?

    Success

Thank you for sharing this. It cured my 3 month long "constant update" problem (onthe third time of running this BAT)

Very strange. Did you Restart the computer as advised to allow ANY pending actions to be implemented?

Oh yes, restarted as advised, and more times. It is a cranky machine and so it's no surprise to me that it took 3 goes. But thankfully its now not constantly 'all day' working the disk at 100%, making the machine unusable. I can now use it again, so thank you!

    Dear Shawn,

I am using Windows 10 Pro 21H1 on my laptop. The Windows Update was stuck on Download Pending after Uninstalling an Update recently.

I have download your "Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.bat" and run it as per your instructions. However, the program was always stuck after performing the Deleted File process, like:

    Deleted file - C:\WINDOWS\Logs\WindowsUpdate\WindowsUpdate.20220820.160358.601.1.etl

Looks it can't continue the next step.

I have tried times, even in the safe mode, but it's same no luck.

I would really appreciate it if you can help me out.

    Hello @lisparc,
    Welcome to TenForums.

I have just looked through the Script and I can NOT find the line that you mention !

Could you be a bit more specific please on the section of the Script that you are referring to.

Hi. That line in the script is here:
    Code:
    del /s /q /f "%SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\WindowsUpdate\*"
It's not clear where it is failing. You said the next step which appears to be:
    Code:
    if exist "%SYSTEMROOT%\winsxs\pending.xml.bak" del /s /q /f "%SYSTEMROOT%\winsxs\pending.xml.bak"
    if exist "%SYSTEMROOT%\winsxs\pending.xml" (
        takeown /f "%SYSTEMROOT%\winsxs\pending.xml"
        attrib -r -s -h /s /d "%SYSTEMROOT%\winsxs\pending.xml"
        ren "%SYSTEMROOT%\winsxs\pending.xml" pending.xml.bak
I'd suggest using a force delete utility to delete those if the script fails then run the script again after rebooting into safe mode.

Personally I don't use this script as it has typically not completed what it is supposed to do whenever I have run it. I use an alternative script.
