Thanks for posting this. The script seems to have hung after deleting log files. It's been sitting here a while. As disclosure though, the computer is not in good shape and is generally very slow. But I'm open to ideas, thanks.

Brink,
I am working on an HP Pavilion that is stuck in a failed auto repair loop unable to start Windows 10 in any fashion. Getting a "windows did not shut down cleanly. Reconstructing metadata..." error during boot-up, then straight to Startup Repair and failed boot. General consensus is a failed Windows Update created the problem
I can access Command Prompt via advanced troubleshooting. All attempts to start Windows in any mode fail.
My question... Is there anyway of accomplishing this reset outside of Windows on the system?
Hello kenjesse, and welcome to Ten Forums.
I'm not sure resetting Windows Update will help for a auto repair loop.
You might see if doing a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before this started may help.
System Restore Windows 10
Available restore points from windows failed to restore... Not trusting windows restore I had installed Tweaking.com Reg Backup when I setup the system and was able to restore to a point 1 day prior to the trouble starting via command prompt. Just wanting to exhaust all attempts at fixing before letting you know restore wasn't working, decided to restore to a week prior... well that worked. I am now able to boot the system...YAY me!!!
Now to get on to trying to figure out what happened in the 1st place. THANKS for nudging me to another attempt.
You got that right... That's why I was so freaked when the initial restore from Tweaking.com Backup didn't get me back into the system.

Hello Again Brink,
Windows Update as suspected is broke... error codes 0x800705b4 and now 0x800706be. I have run your bat file several times with same result. Unable to start system in safe mode as elderly user has no clue what their Microsoft password is (they are still looking for it). Using DISM indicates image is repairable running with /restorehealth switch hangs after 100% for hours without completing. Close elevated CMD window and rebooting gets "Preparing windows do not shut off..." dialog for a long time before reboot. Windows Update Troubleshooter fails with error code 0x800706be using built in or download version. Couple of questions if you have time:
System info:
HP Pavilion
Win 10 Home, Ver: 1903
- If I use the the DISM limit access switch does the Image I use have to be 1903 (my computers are all 1909)
- Would using Windows Update Assistant to update to 1909 be an option
- And of course any unsolicited advice would be appreciated.
And of course I've run virus scans and checked the HD for errors.
Windows Update Assistant would update you to the latest 2004 version instead.
Update to Latest Version of Windows 10 using Update Assistant
