Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

This is normal to get few errors like that while the .bat file runs. It's going through a list of items to delete, and will give an error if the item can't be found to delete. That's ok. It will just skip it and move on to the next items to delete to reset Windows Update.

If you like, you might see if using the Windows 10 Update Assistant below may be able to update you to the latest version of Windows 10 without losing anything.

I have a question about this thing (that may have been addressed previously). After resetting the Windows Update list, does Windows 10 download and install (overwrite) all the updates that are already installed on the computer once again? Thanks

I believe if you install the latest Cumulative Update, all earlier ones become irrelevant as the system is considered fully up to date. The next time you install a CU, it will only update items it finds missing. Hence why they're called cumulative updates.

So if you install CU A, miss out CU B and install CU C, you have effectively still installed A + B + C ie, your version number at the end will be the same as if you installed A + B + C individually.

In addition to what VBF posted, Windows Update will not reinstall anything you already have installed after resetting it.

The reset process basically just clears things up to allow Windows Update to start fresh at default when it checks for updates. When Windows Update checks in, it will still know what you currently have installed.

Okay thanks for the clarification. Yet I have a question: Is there a way to still force Windows Update to re-install (re-overwrite) previously installed updates? The reason why I ask is for the possibility that some files got replaced by corrupted (hacked) files that Windows isn't aware of. I'm sure hackers out there have the ability to do such thing.
This is like a security measure that forces Windows to replace all files in the system with the Microsoft certified files.

Is there such option?

You could use the SFC command below to verify and fix modified/corrupted system files.

Run SFC Command in Windows 10
