Yes, automatic updates is working differently in 1803 than in previous Windows versions. But I already figured out the "new" pattern. While before 1803, the machine checked for updates automatically every time I rebooted or cold started, now it checks for updates 24 hours after last time it checked. So, if the machine or you check for updates at 3PM today, and you don't click to check for updates manually, the machine will check on its own tomorrow after 3PM.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was wondering this as well, as it seemed I was no longer getting automatic updates with 1803. As you stated, after I waited 24 hours it automatically checked for updates.

Hello! Thank you very much for the help, but I have tried running the file but my WU history is not cleared? Can I know what is probably the cause? I have followed every steps including the restart. And does this code somehow related to network connection? Because apparently my internet is slower after the steps.

Hi kizuran, Welcome to 10F, we are always happy to help! :)

It will take some investigation to determine the cause of your failed attempt, are you positive you restarted your machine immediately after running Brink's .bat file?

As to your second question. Does this have anything to do with the network connection? Yes, it does. If you look through the .bat file you will see many references to services that help your machine in making a network connection they are too numerous to list here but I'd say at least 90% of the file has to do with networking. It's stopping and restarting services and the majority of files that are being re-registered are crucial to networking.

1.) Did you see any error messages or warnings?

2.) I would try re-running the .bat file.

3.) After re-running the .bat file check to make sure these services have been re-started and set to automatic.
    Code:
    :Start
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv
    net start appidsvc
    net start cryptsvc
How to Start, Stop, Restart, Enable, and Disable Services in Windows 10 Using Option six may make it easier to check.

4.) Do you have a regular HDD and not an SSD in your laptop? You're system specs do not show either (How to fill-in). I ask because it may help to run an SFC scannow The consensus is that an SFC scan will needlessly wear on an SSD.

5.) Re-evaluate your network speed. Do you use something like speedtest.net to obtain speed readings?

Strange how this happens. However for me the over day my update didn't auto check for 3 pm after it had did the last auto check. So I manually checked for updates around 9:30pm last night and it worked. Troubleshooter doesn't point any issues either. I guess I will wait till 9:30pm tonight before I do anything or wait till tomorrow morning then.

Actually, I think the internet problem's fine now, maybe it's just bad weather and it's a coincidence... I'm so sorry I have troubled you!
Yes, I restart it immediately. I have tried repeating the steps twice or three times, I forgot. And actually after that my Windows Update is working well - except after that my laptop restarted and when it reached 100%, it failed and undo the changes.

Not a problem, as Scotty said in star trek "It was no tribble at all"

So, Updates are working okay even though it says it failed?

Are you're still waiting the 24hours to make sure?

Trying to update windows generates the response"Your device is at risk because its out of date and missing important security and quality updates....."

On running the batch file, it reports "could not find c\programdata\microsoft\network\downloader qmgr.dat" However the process completes but the problem remains. Could the missing file be a clue to my problem?

Any help much appreciated - I am pulling my hair out here!
