Reset Windows Update in Windows 10  

Hi Shawn. As one of the many users suffering with the bad KB4074588 update, I thought I would try running your batch file to see if it would make a difference. Unfortunately, although it appeared to run perfectly ok it hasn't helped. However, what I did notice was that when the script was running I saw the following:-
"Could not find C: Program Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
Looking at the location I confirm that the file is not there. However, I do have qmgr.db and qmgr.jfm.. Whether Microsoft has changed something or I have an error, I don't know. Any help greatly appreciated.

Wanted to thank you again for this tutorial. Had a client the other day who was having issues updating his PC from ver. 1607 to 1709 -- the feature update kept failing.

As a last resort I ran your bat file and the PC updated with no issues after a restart. :)

After upgrading to W10 1803 via Windows update (yesterday), the laptop feel great, everything runs fine but I find a couple of things that are not quite right. Here is one, the machine is not checking for updates automatically after rebooting or cold starting the laptop. I even enabled Windows defender to see if it updates automatically and is not doing it. If I check manually for updates, the laptop and/or Windows defender carries on the update process successfully. Looking at Events log, there are no error whatsoever regarding Windows updates. In other words, I haven't seen any error regarding Windows update.

The Windows update service is set to Manual (Trigger), I checked and it is default. I am not using Metered connection either and my internet connection is fine. I don't mess around with enabling or disabling services or install programs that mess with Windows.

To this point in time, I haven't done nothing to "fix" this and haven't read anyone anywhere report something similar after upgrading to 1803. I am tracking the April update thread here. What would you recommend? Run the batch, the Windows update troubleshooter or change the Windows update service to automatic to see what happens? or ...something else?

I'm seeing the same thing here. Besides that I have the Group Policy set to Notify and I just noticed that it updated Defender definitions without any notification. It updated the definitions at 17:23 but Windows Update says it was last checked at 12:25?

It's not been long enough to figure out a pattern but something is definitely very different since 1803 came yesterday.

Sure, it won't hurt anything to run the .bat file using "Run as administrator". Just be sure to restart the computer right afterwards.

Brink, I ran it but nothing good happened.

Perhaps I closed it before it had finished. When I ran it, after a few seconds it wasnt moving and I closed it.

Does the Bat closes on its own when is over?
