Reset Windows Update in Windows 10  

Hi Shawn, Try3 suggests this can be used to clear a pending update (e.g. a Win 11 upgrade pending restart).

I searched the tutorials for e.g. 'pending update' but found nothing.

This one's description says nothing about that that I can see.

If it can be so used, could text be added in a manner that also makes it easily findable? Thanks!

I didn't include that in the description since I found that it doesn't always clear pending updates.

You suggested this in place of that as being more comprehensive.

the TenForumsTutorial is much more comprehensive. It cleans out what that Pureinfotech cleans out and more.

I agree.

Everything that that Puretechinfo article says to do is included within this tutorial.

If that Puretechinfo article is correct then this tutorial is also correct.
If that Puretechinfo article is correct then this tutorial is better.
If the OP has any hope at all then that hope lies in this tutorial.

My concern is that, because of the pending state that the OP's update is in, it may not be possible to stop the relevant services and so the reset attempt will fail.

It can't hurt anything to try the reset at least.

I followed the instructions in the original post, but I never got the warning about restarting. It just stopped after a long series of "Deleted File- C: Windows....." This was over an hour ago so I don't think it is going to do anything further. I'm scared to reboot because maybe it did not complete, but it seems done. What should I do?

Hello Jesster, and welcome.

It's ok. You can safely restart the computer. If needed, you can run the BAT again afterwards.

One member has confirmed that resetting WU [albeit only partially] has succeeded in removing Update and Shutdown/Restart warnings from the Start menu, Power menu.


I think it's worth adding a comment to this effect in the tutorial's intro.
