Error finding registries & other files, but successfully fixed problem

    Hi Brink,
Thank you for posting this solution, it fixed my problem when I booted my computer into safe mode and ran the script.
However, it did say it found errors finding registries and some files, but prompted a restart for me anyway.

After checking for updates to see if KB4023057 would be found, downloaded, and installed like it usually does, it did not which is what I wanted.

This is because it was already successfully installed once, and would pop up every single time I clicked check for updates and updates the date that it was installed.

I am hoping that the update was actually successfully installed before, and that the pop up I had was simply a GUI glitch. As you mentioned in the article my update history remains the same.

Is it safe to assume that the reset went well and I'm good to go?

I tried a few times as well and continue to see:
Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x8007000d)

What update is it? Try downloading it from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/

Or you may start a new thread in the following section:

    Hello @Brink ,

Based on the recent change in Restore Default Services in Windows 10 for wuauserv to be Manual (Trigger start), I believe the bat script line in OP:

    sc config wuauserv start= auto
needs to change from auto to manual.

    Thanks

    Hello Steve,

Manual (Trigger start) is the default, but I find Automatic helps to better make sure the service is running when needed.

So just be aware that the service startup wuauserv setting after running the script won't match the table in the other thread and could become a headscratcher for people like me. I like consistency.

I agree, but if you're having to reset Windows Update for some issue, using "Automatic" could help make it more reliable to start running on demand than just "Manual".
