Thanks Brink, I ll try it again. But before doing it let me show you a couple of things to see what you think. I believe the reason Windows updates is not checking for updates automatically is because I cant set the Setting (marked as 1 in the picture) to remain Enabled. When I toggle the setting to Enabled, it goes back to Disabled. The setting dont switch to Enabled.

Yesterday, I noticed (what I marked as 2 in the picture), that on the right hand corner it says that to configure Windows updates to be automatic, I need to update the Privacy section.



When I click the link, it brings me here (picture below). I dont know what MS wants. The setting that I have always enabled there is the one thats supposed to help updates when restarting the laptop.



Right now I am pretty confused about this thing. As I mentioned yesterday, checking for updates works fine without errors and Windows defender is updating automatically on its own. I left WD On to see the behaviour. So, I think my problem is due to the setting in Advanced options.

What you think? should I run the bat again? Looking around yesterday in the forum I saw a couple of other posters experiencing something similar with Windows updates.

If Windows Update is working just fine for you, there's no need to run the .bat file.

Windows updates is working fine when I check for updates manually, the Store apps are also updating fine and WD is doing it on its own. The issue I am having is that WU is not doing the check for updates automatically when starting the laptop or rebooting. Perhaps something changed with this version. Are your computers checking for updates automatically every time you reboot? please tell me, mine is not.

Thanks Brink. With 1709 and the earlier versions I used I noticed Windows updates checking for updates automatically every time I booted, part of my routine is to look at the WU tab in Settings after every boot. Has WU checked for updates in your W10 since the upgrade to 1803? In my case, it hasn't done it once (I upgraded the 30th). Also, in your opinion, why am I not allowed to set the setting in Advanced options to Enabled (I think the answer to that is the key to the solution :))?

I tell you whats funny though, right now the way Windows updates is set to work in my W10 is the way I handled Windows updates in my XP and W7 (Disable checking/installing updates automatically and doing the updates at my own pace). I changed my routine on how to handle updates in W10 and accepted and went along the way MS wants us to handle them, but perhaps this is the best thing it could happen to me. I ll play it by ear for now. :)

Brink, my issue was a non issue. All I had to do for Windows updates to check for updates automatically was to go 24 hours without checking for updates manually. :)

Yes, automatic updates is working differently in 1803 than in previous Windows versions. But I already figured out the "new" pattern. While before 1803, the machine checked for updates automatically every time I rebooted or cold started, now it checks for updates 24 hours after last time it checked. So, if the machine or you check for updates at 3PM today, and you don't click to check for updates manually, the machine will check on its own tomorrow after 3PM.
