    Hi Brink

If I updated using the Windows 10 Update Assistant would this solve my update problems through windows update, or is that an unknown.

Have you had chance to look at my post 146 below does this help in any way

I tried the trouble shooter restarted then went to windows update. then went to the log file. with the last 3 results below the first is before I ran the trouble shooter the other 2 are after and it said it had successfully detected 10 updates what they are I don't know.

    Bill,

The Windows 10 Update Assistant should at least get you to the latest version of Windows 10.

It should also fix Windows Update since it gets reset in the process of updating, but there's no guarantee on that depending on the cause.

    Thanks Brink

I think I will uninstall Zone Alarm first to get rid of the True Vector internet monitor, then re run your script.
If that does not work I'll use the Update Assistant.

I'll keep you posted I am now going to put my feet up with a beer and recommence tomorrow.

I am incredible grateful for yours and everybody else's help.

    Hi Brink

I've have uninstalled Zone Alarm, True Vector Monitor has gone. Ran your script again it appeared to run OK, but when I tried update again there was no change " could not install some updates because other updates are in progress"

I have also tried installing using the update assistant but when it restarted I got the blue screen with the message " A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed Error code 0xC000000f" not sure what that means but Ctrl- Alt-Delete restarted
the computer and it rebooted back up to where it was previously. I have read that it could be to do with USB function as a long shot I did turn off my USB mouse.

I'll try again using the update assistant.

    Any Ideas, thank you

    Hi Brink
Thank you again for your reply.

I live in the outback of Wales, internet is so slow 1Mps so it will take a long time for me to do these recommendations.

I'm incredible grateful for all your time and help, I will post back with the final outcome.

    Thank you

    Hi Brink
Instead of re-installing Windows I ran the DISM or Deployment Image Servicing and Management scan https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...date-readiness tool as suggested by Michelle Her of Microsoft and the upgrade to 1703 has installed.

The problem that has occurred now is when I try access MS Edge it opens it does not load anything and then closes down within about a minute, Internet Explorer works OK, I did not have this problem before the upgrade.
I thought perhaps with the problems I have been having and the fact that the installation to 1703 had tried and failed so many times that something might have got corrupted and that if I roll back and re-download 1703 this would cure the problem. I understand the roll back facility lasts for 10 days is this correct.
I would be grateful for your help again.

    Thanks
    Bill
