Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

So you recommend a reset rather than a refresh?

I do have backups but if I could keep my files I would prefer that?

You could try a refresh first to see if it may help.

To conclude my particular issue here, I have found my problem and thankfully don't have to go this route.

It appears to be due to the latest beta of the exploit mitigation tool HitmanPro.Alert.
I had previously found I had to disable it's service to get sfc /scannow to run.

Doing same, I was then able to successfully run the downloaded KB4025342.

So it would appear there is some interference there. Have reported to the devs.

Thanks a lot, Brink, saved me once more. This is a very useful script to use when Windows updates get stuck, which happens 99% of the time. Windows Update on Windows 10 is so unreliable, that nowadays I prefer to download the standalone updates from Microsoft Update Catalog. I also do this because I won't have to download the same update again if I want to install it in another machine. Most of the times, I see what is the update being downloaded (KB number), grab it fom Microsoft Update Catalog website, use this batch file to stop Windows Update and then just install the standalone updates, much faster this way.

Hi Brink
This my first post so I hope I have posted it the correct place.

I am running Windows 10 Home Edition

I have a problem with Windows update when trying to download/install build 1703. The message I get is "We can't install some updates because others are in progress. Restarting your computer may help, and we'll keep trying to update."
I have run your Reset-Reregister-Windows Update-Components.bat it failed with " Cannot reset windows updates since Cryptographic Services (cryptosvc) failed to stop”. When the script ran it said "The following services are dependant on the Cryptographic Services service. Stopping the Cryptographic Services service will also stop Truevector Internet Monitor and Application Identity."

I went into the registry and changed the Startup Type Application Identity to manual, but I could not change TrueVector Internet Monitor it said Access is Denied.

I ran Reset Reregister Windows update.bak this time it only failed on TrueVector Internet Monitor failing to stop.

I think the script would work if I could change TrueVector Internet Monitor to manual.
Have you any ideas how I could do this.

If Windows says which update (s) failed (e.g., KB1234...), you can search for them on the Windows update catalog website and install manually.

TrueVector Internet Monitor is part of Zone Alarm.

Did you already try restarting the computer to see if that may help allow the updates to install afterwards?

As fotafm posted above, which update will not install? You may be able to manually download and install it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

I did restart the computer with no difference. How do I find which update did not install, in Windows 10 home under settings update it doesn't give update history.
Is it worth uninstalling zone alarm?
