    Yahbut, I'd rather put up with Bmp and Txt in there than be without my New menu entirely. When I'm going through the lengthy process of configuring and customizing a new OS, I use the New Folder/New Shortcut options a zillion times on the desktop and in File Explorer.

    File: Restore_New_Rich_Text_Document_context_menu_item.reg

    Hi Shawn

    Just wanted to point out that the following lines in the very first paragraph:

    ; Rich Text Document
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf\ShellNew]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf\ShellNew]
    "Data"="{\\rtf1}"
    "ItemName"=hex(2):40,00,25,00,50,00,72,00,6f,00,67,00,72,00,61,00,6d,00,46,00,\
    69,00,6c,00,65,00,73,00,25,00,5c,00,57,00,69,00,6e,00,64,00,6f,00,77,00,73,\

    00,58,00,45,00,2c,00,2d,00,32,00,31,00,33,00,00,00

    Hello. My Windows 11 build came with no "Text Document" entry under "New". Is there a way to add it back? I'm using the classic context menu.

    Hello Rancher, and welcome to Ten Forums.

    You can safely try option 1 in Windows 11 as well.

    I wasn't confident enough to try it, considering you guys said that removing TXT doesn't work yet. Anyway, it's added, thanks!

    Hi Brink and others,

    I noticed recently that I was missing some key items under the 'New' context menu in Windows 10, particularly to create a new text document and a new Word document. Playing around with shellmenunew, ShellNewHandler and within the registry itself (following the guidelines found here: How to Add Other File Types to the New Item Menu in Windows 10s File Explorer & Edit, Add, Remove items from New Context Menu in Windows 10) did not help, however using your registry file allowed me to restore the "New text document" option. Thanks a lot! I am, however, still missing the "New Word document" and "New Excel document" options do you have any idea on how to fix this? Strangely enough, I can enable New Access document, New PowerPoint document and New Publisher document if I want to via ShellNewHandler, but Word and Excel refuse to show up...

    Here is a screenshot of my current 'New' context menu:

    Many thanks in advance for your help!
