I think it would be smart to follow the tutorials on moving these folder locations as well so all the existing content is all at the same location. Not just to change the new save locations.

Do you suggest which should be done first, I know changing folder locations for example documents also makes changes to the registry.

I'm sorry That is what I was trying to point out, maybe both should be done in sequence. Thanks for the Quick reply.

I apologize if you misunderstood me.

I hope this thread is still followed.
I have postponed using Windows 10 for as long as I could but finally bought a Windows 10 laptop.
I used OneDrive on previous systems so upon starting the new laptop installed OneDrive.
That sent all my folders to the OneDrive folder whereas my previous OneDrive folder was part of my "My documents" folder
I have solved that and used the methods you refer to in post to move all my folders to the locations where I wanted them
For "My documents" the location is D:\My documents
All went well until I installed a program Moneyflow. This program created a map Documents on C.
So now I also have a map C:\Users\me\Documents.
Some programs open this map when I want to save something.
I cannot delete this map because then Moneyflow will not work anymore.
As long as other programs don't open this map I do not care but some still do.

So I am very interested in this post.
I looked in the settings where you can change where everything is stored and see that everything is still stored on C.
That is very strange because by moving my folders to other locations most things are sent there.
So what shall I do now?
    Let's take the Documents:
If I change the setting from C where it is now to D this will create a new Documents folder on D - I think.
So I will have on D : a folder Documents and a folder my Documents - where everything should go.

    ????????????????????????

    Hello @Amazone,

Since you mentioned OneDrive and your Documents folder, you may have set OneDrive to protect your Documents folder and why it's being copied to OneDrive by default.

You could either use the tutorial on the first page here to have new Documents saved to your D drive, or use the tutorial below to move your Documents folder to the D drive.

Glad you are still watching this thread.
I only put a limited number of things in OneDrive. No pictures. Only documents I want to access from other devices.
So my OneDrive was set to not update automatically. So your option One is not applicable.

Option2 does work. Wonder why I didn't try that before.
This already solves the issue that if I do not pay attention things get saved on my C disk which is SSD and I want to keep only for programs.
    But: now I have a map D:\Documents and a map D:\My Documents.
In D:\Documents I have only one map : Moneyflow .
In the settings of Moneyflow the location of the map has changed from C to D so that is OK but I cannot change it to D:\My Documents because in the settings the option to change is greyed out:Change Storage Save Locations in Windows 10-knipsel.jpg
So I will still have some programs opening location D:\Documents instead of My Documents.
I had the issue with my Outlook 2007 where all attachments where sent to the Documents map in C. I solved this by a registry change.

And: If in the settings I want to change storage from C- I can only change to D (documents) or P(pictures and Music) and not to a specific file on D or P.
So : if I do change the storage settings: will this create new maps - if so what will be the name? If the name is D:\Documents - will the existing map be emptied????

    I tried something:
On my P partition I have a map Afbeeldingen (dutch for pictures) and a map video's
    First made copies of everything
I then changed the storage settings for Pictures and videos from C to P
    Nothing was deleted
A new map was created with my username and in that map a map Pictures and a map Videos.
As I am the only user of this pc this is a step too much.

    I wonder:
Is the possibility to change storage something newly introduced?
Until now with a new Windows PC you had to make partitions - Copy your documents, Pictures, Video's etc to the new partitions and then change the location of the maps documents, Pictures,... to the new locations.
Now - if you start bij changing the storage settings before anything else that wouldn't be necessary anymore?

Storage settings will only have new documents automatically saved to your D location without moving or deleting the current content from the original C location.

The move folder location option has been around since Vista. This option will allow you to move the current content to the new location. Anything saved to the folder will be saved to the new location.

    Thank you.
    When you say :
The move folder location option has been around since Vista.
I guess you mean where you go into the properties of a folder and choose another location.

What I meant was that the "Storage settings" must be new and did not exist before the last Windows10 build update.
This will make it much easier in the future to change the location of your folders. But you have to do it before putting anything in any folder.

    Anyway thanks for the help.
I think I know how to solve my double documents issue but it will be a bit complicated
