Media Creation Tool (MCT) has now been updated.

The ISO file or USB created by MCT will now install Windows 10 version 22H2 build 19045.2965.

I'm getting ready to build a new system and would like to create a bootable USB with the latest version of this turorial. I have a question before I begin.

The USb I am using is a 16 GB that has the last version from May 18, 2021 I want to format that USB to use for this one. What file system should I select when formatting this USB drive?

    Thanks in advance

It does not matter. Both Microsoft's Media Creation Tool and Rufus will create and format the partitions for you. Microsoft's Media Creation Tool will initialize the flash drive as MBR, it will create a primary partition up to 32 GB in size, and format it FAT32 and mark the partition as active. This the most universally bootable format in all computers. Rufus will initialize, partition and format the USB flash drive according to the user's settings, and the result may not be compatible in all computers.

So are you saying I don't have to format the USB drive that has the last version on it first? the Media tool will format it and do the rest for me. I was thinking it had to be a blank USB drive.

    Also another question.
Do I have to do anything on step 1 on this tutorial,
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

Since I already have Wini 10 pro installed in my system and step 1 sounds like it is for Win 7 or 8

    Hello Ron,

You won't need do step 1 since you're on Windows 10, and not Windows 7/8.

Correct. The MCT will format the USB, so need to do anything else to the USB.
