To Restore Default Location of Your Personal Folders in Properties

I am trying to follow Option 1 but when I type shell:UsersFilesFolders or shell:Personal into File Explorer address bar I get message "cannot find shell:UsersFiles Folders" and the same result with the Personal command.

Am I doing something wrong ?

    Marie,

Yes, you are sticking a space in the middle of it before the word Folder.

You can select & copy [Ctrl-C] shell:UsersFilesFolder then paste it straight into the File explorer address bar by
1 single click on a blank area in the right-hand side of the File explorer address bar {my purple smudge} to select whatever is in the address bar at the moment

    2 Ctrl-V to paste in shell:UsersFilesFolder

    All the best,
    Denis

[Corrected later after I'd noticed the aberrant s on the end.]

Sorry, I noticed that you had stuck a space in the middle but failed to spot the s you had stuck on the end.

    shell:UsersFilesFolder

    User Accounts Restore Default

Many thanks for your patience ! I still have no luck with shell:UsersFilesFolder but I followed the tutorial and succeeded in using shell:Personal. I got to the right location for restoring default location for Documents folder but did not complete.

I was originally hoping to be able to follow this procedure by changing the default location
to my new user account but hesitate due to dire warnings about possible appalling results if it goes wrong.

    New question:
if I restore the original default location to my current administrator account and leave this original user file alone,
    ie refrain from removing it
    a) will I be able to transfer individual files and folders from the current user to the new active user account which I intend to make an administrator account. I am not clear what effect the default location has. Can you still save files and folders to other locations ?

    b) Will reducing the current user account to a standard account after making the new account an administrative account, affect the default location process ?

Sorry I sound so dumb, but I am inexperienced and I do not want to make things worse. I was hoping that changing the default location might clear up two recurrent problems I have with the current user account.
    a) duplication of folders including the Documents Folder.
    b) Windows 10 not saving files, or not saving them to the destination I indicate.

This may not be the place to ask these questions, but I am floundering.

Thanks to all for your patience.

If your intention is to transfer files and folders to a new user account, you should consider simply copying them to that new user account rather than using this tutorial.

This tutorial assumes you have previously relocated folders, and allows you to reverse that.

    As for
    shell:UsersFilesFolder

    - this works for me FWIW, suggesting something is amiss.

    Don't do it.
User folder locations are things that apply within a single user account but make no sense across accounts.

If you cannot figure out how to do whatever it is that you are actually trying to do then explain it here.
If the solution is short, your question can be answered here.
If the solution is not short, we can advise you about how to frame your question in a new thread.

Hi, Nice batchs, it would be better if you change this line on all of them:
    reg add "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "My Music" /t REG_SZ /d "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Music" /f
    to
    reg add "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "My Music" /t REG_SZ /d "%USERPROFILE%\Music" /f

To avoid breaking windows not installed on drive C: or breaking WinXP folders which aren't on C:\Users\
Another nice addition would be having a batch to set all folders at once.

( I would rather use in Shell the same as in UserShell: "%%USERPROFILE%%\Desktop" so as to have same value for any username).

    Hello, and thank you.

That path is what Windows uses by default.

Windows should always recognize its drive letter as "C" while in Windows, so it shouldn't be an issue.
