My "C:\Users\username\Desktop" folder is missing. I downloaded "Restore_Desktop_Default_Location.bat" and it did not restore it. If I try to manually create the folder, it gets renamed to "Documents".

Well, I don't know/understand. I checked the documents folder and sure enough the desktop files were in it and I was able to rename the folder to "Desktop".

Are you able to drag and drop your Desktop folder out of the Documents back into your username folder?

The desktop folder was not inside of Documents, the desktop files were and I just renamed the folder.

I guess you may have mistakenly dragged and dropped them into Documents.

No for two reasons. If I had dragged and dropped them into the Documents folder they would not have been on the Desktop and what did it was an critical update from M$ which I proved:
    1. The update was done without my knowledge as they are now doing and the Documents folder got deleted and Desktop renamed to Documents.
    2. I did a Restore before I renamed the folder from Documents to Desktop.
    3. I recreated the Documents folder.
    4. I did an undo of the Restore.
    5. I then had two documents folders which I didn't have the first time, one was normal looking folder and the other had the Desktop folder icon.
    6. I again renamed the folder that had the Desktop files in it to Desktop and everything is working properly.

Now, when all this happened I messed up and did not get the update ID, but maybe this will be of help if it happens to someone else. All I can say is that I thank the Lord it is back in working order.

First off, thank you for this thread. It seems to be exactly what I'm after.
I moved my 'documents' folder to another ssd that had more room but I didn't put it inside another folder so the contents are just sitting there on the root which looks awful to me. I wanted to restore it and move it again to be contained in a single folder on the new drive but nothing is working.

I tried both option one and two with no success :/.
When doing option two everything appears to work. It goes exactly as you describe it.
However my documents folders do not go back to the original "Documents" location.
They're still sitting on the ssd I moved them to.

I apologize for the double post. I cannot find where to edit my previous post (perhaps because I am new)?
I'm just re-reading the instructions in method 2.

    Step 17-
    17. Copy any files you wanted from the old folder location into the restored default folder location.
Does it mean simply cut/paste the documents that I moved back to the default documents folder on the c drive? It will not cause any issues?
