I have done a clean installation just now but it didn't ask for Product key and it activated without copying/pasting the GenuineTicket.xml. I used the USB created with MCT:)
Was that on a computer that previously came with Windows 8 on it from the factory? The Windows 10 install likely read the Windows 8 Product Key stored in bios and used that. Great news if that is the case!

If you previously had the free Windows 10 activated on that PC for the digital entitlement, then it would have detected the Windows 8.1 key in your UEFI firmware chip and activated with it.

This is a new great feature with more details in the yellow Tip box at the top of the tutorial.

I have one Pro VM activated being the 10586 build and the MC tool saw the TH2 downloaded and put on another VM but while seeing a key of it's own shows I have to connect online? The browsers not only connect online but remotely from one VM on one machine to a VM or the second machine the other VM is on.

The same key wouldn't for the second VM on the same machine where now all I see there is the 0xC004C003 error code. The 10586 VM was actually an earlier build upgraded to the 10586 just after that came out for the Insiders that accepted a 7 key. The TH2 however expects a 10 key instead it would seem explaining why that particular error was seen.

@NavyLCDR& @Brink , Yes, I did have Win8 in my laptop when I purchased it, upgraded to 8.1 then dual booted with Win 10TP.

I did a clean install of 10586 on my wife's laptop with my MSDN ISO. I had wiped the hard drive so it was blank and un partitioned, no OS. I was not asked to select Home or Pro or enter a key. It has a Windows 8.0 Core OEM embedded key. 10 Home was installed by default and activated with no issues. It read and used the 8.0 OEM key. 10 Home was never installed on this laptop previously. It does have a digital entitlement for 10 Pro though. It was originally upgraded from 8.1 Pro to 10 Pro. I just used the change product code option and entered the generic 10 Pro key in. It upgraded to 10 Pro and activated just fine. Now it has a digital entitlement for 10 Home and 10 Pro. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation, then see what it says for product key. Mine says "Windows 10 on this device is activated with a digital entitlement".

The VMs that took the 7 keys were the 10586 build not the Threshold 2 that went on fresh. The other VMs saw upgrades over the previous builds that weren't activated and still took the 7 keys while the Th2 there seems to be geared for 10 keys only. The downloads you saw there were MSDN again not the Threshold 2 when those took the 8 OEM keys.

I was hoping the GentuineTicket option might work for the TH2 VM by getting the xml file from the 10586 activated on the same desktop and that was a no go suggesting this could be a problem for clean installs on physical drives as well it won't accept the previous version's activation without a direct upgrade. You would then need to first put on an earlier build to see activation there and then proceed to upgrade into the TH2 to carry the DE activation over.

For now however a look at the 10 TH2 upgrade over the activated 10586 will be interesting to watch.

@ Night Hawk Um? Isn't 10586 Threshold 2? Or are you talking Insider release versus Consumer release? I totally don't understand what you posted?

You just summed it up there! 10586 Insider Preview upgrading over with TH2 general release where there is a difference despite being the same build. The activation as well as what keys will work seems to be what saw a change between releases.

The latest MediaCreationTool.exe download replaces the previously seen MCT_32.exe and MCT_64.exe separated by kernel downloads and now combines both 32 and 64 options as well as the choice of either Home or Pro when seeing a clean install while an upgrade automatically detected Pro x64 with the options for keeping files and apps, files only, or nothing at all during the upgrade. The test here will be to see if the 10586 7 key activation will transfer over to the TH2 general release since the GetTicket option didn't work for the TH2 clean install VM there.

2:42am EST for the start up with double click on the setup.exe file immediately seen after the right click to mount on the MC Tool's downloaded iso. IT was compared to the previous Tech Bench 4 in 1 project seen with the 10240 builds and sees both 32bit and 64bit folders as well as including both editions for automatic detection to make things much easier to follow the correct upgrade path or choosing which when going for a clean install which will be the next VM project.

I think I am running out of desktops to try clean installs on other then VMs being the problem as far as trying to work with the method outlined here.

And the word is? The DE activation was transferred immediately over to the TH2 upgrade as expected without any issue!

Now to set up a new VM to see a previous version go one first to see if the Genuine Ticket can work as long as the 7 VM can be activated? That has always been a no win however with 10 being the first for seeing this other then the XP Mode 90 day evaluation in years past.

My MSDN ISO's have been Multi Edition from day one. Core and Pro for 8, Home and Pro for 10. Last time I checked the Windows 8 MCT it was Core or Pro, like it was for Windows 10 MCT up to 10240. Now it multi edition like my MSDN ISO's are. MSDN is also split 32 bit 64 bit, each one is a separate ISO. I've been doing all my installs with my MSDN ISO's, didn't see the point in downloading the MCT ones if they are the same anyway. I can't get I can only get Enterprise and Education on MSDN anyway so I just downloaded them all from there. Anyway, looks like your in the thick of it, have fun. I'm all done for now. All four of my home PC's are updated to 10586. Office 1016 is installed too so just a few small things to pick away at.
