Thanks man for the reply. I guess it woudn't hurt to try though, maybe it will work?
Hello,
Since the clean install worked so well on my 320GB HDD, I want to potentially do it as well to two other computers, both of which already have Windows 10 Pro installed via the upgrade. Before I decide whether or not to go ahead, I have a couple of questions:
First, for a 1TB HDD, can I use the existing ISO I made for the 320GB HDD, and just copy it onto the 1TB HDD to create a Genuine Ticket or do I need to use the Media Creation Tool and proceed from there?
Second, I have a slightly older netbook (ASUS EeePC 1015PN) which has 64-bit CPU but only 2 GB of RAM (and that's the max upgrade allowed). I'd read that because of the low RAM I should install a 32-bit OS so that's what I did. Now I'm wondering whether I should, in fact, do a clean Windows 10 reinstall for this computer with 64-bit architecture? As well, can I use the existing ISO from the 320GB HDD to create a Genuine Ticket or do I have to use the MCT and proceed from there?
Thanks very much.
You can use the same ISO file. The genuineticket.xml file has nothing to do with the installation from the ISO file itself - it only provides a base license after Windows 10 is installed. Also the ISO file can be used across multiple hardware configurations - that's why when you make it with the Media Creation Tool it is the option to "Create installation media for another PC".
On the computer with 2GB RAM, I would leave it at the 32-Bit Windows 10. Maybe someone will come along with a real explanation as to why or if I am wrong. 4GB RAM then I would move up to 64-Bit Windows because at 4GB 64-Bit shows more available memory than 32-Bit does.
Hi. I agree with Navy: The ISO can be used across systems, but (per the tutorial here, step #9) the geniuneticket.xml can only be used on the computer on which it was generated. For the system with 2GB RAM max, I would install 32-bit.
Thanks, Navy and simrick for your feedback. Just to clarify about the Genuine Ticket - I don't recall if I chose originally to make the ISO for existing or 'another' computer. So to be precise, that original ISO can create a Genuine Ticket for each different computer it is on, right? I recall that the original ISO was 64-bit so I think I have to make another one for 32-bit for the netbook or will the ISO file automatically give me the option of 32 or 64-bit? I don't recall this option when installing on the 320GB HDD since it's 64-bit. Thanks again.
The architecture (32 or 64 bit) is selected before you download the ISO, so if you have a 64-bit ISO, you'll want to get another in 32-bit depth.
From the first page of the tut:
So grab that file and put it on the desktop of each computer for which you want to generate the GenuineTicket.xml file.Open the sources folder in the opened USB or mounted ISO, and copy the gatherosstate.exe file to your desktop.
Put those xml files in a safe place, like on a flash drive or something, and keep them separate, identifying to which system each pertains. :)Right click or press and hold on the gatherosstate.exe file on your desktop, and click/tap on Run as administrator. This will create a GenuineTicket.xml file on your desktop.
^^ Excellent, very clear, got it. I need to make another ISO for the 32-bit, but can use the existing 64-bit ISO for the 1TB HDD (even if I'd originally selected it for 'existing' computer... honestly, I don't recall). Thanks very much, simrick and Navy!
