    That does not get you into Safe mode.

    It is one step along the way - as is explained in the tutorial Option 1 para 1.

    Hi Shawn, some people like to delete- and even recommend deleting- the Recovery partition.

    Some options for booting to Safe Mode rely on Advanced Startup options via WinRE being available.

    Is it worth adding a note in the relevant options something like...
    'This option is not available if
    - you have deleted the Recovery partition
    - the Recovery Environment is disabled or non-functional.

    I tried the Feedback hub along with a lot of other people that I know. Windows 11 is out and it's broken. Productivity and other tools that make things easy were taken out, and F8 still isn't back despite requests from people actually working on their own and others computers. It is not practical nor possible to get into every customers computer and set it up with a reliable, easy way into the safe mode. Once a computer has trouble booting, some of the suggestions here are almost useless, and those that aren't are certainly harder than F8. (one computer at a time? Really?)

    I don't think Microsoft really listens. As I said earlier, once a customers computer is malfunctioning, it used to be a simple thing to boot it into the Safe Mode (if possible) with F8. Now... Microsoft has gone backwards and made things harder (again). F8 needs to be brought back. I believe claims from Microsoft that this is not possible to be a fabrication. There are rumors that a low level language programmer (with some time on her hands, and a chip on her shoulder) has proven that it can be done. (err.. just a rumor.)

    If you wish to try to force a non-booting PC to boot to Safe Mode see e.g.

    The only way I know how to force a safemode boot outside of Windows is to download the Kaspersky Rescue Disk and use its Offline Registry Editor.


    Safe mode uses the following registry key. You will have to add the Option key under Safeboot and also "OptionValue" with a dword value of 1

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Option]
    "OptionValue"=dword:00000001

    That IS an option, and a good one, thank you. Buying Kaspersky and hacking the registry will certainly do the trick, and is good information to have. (For now...) I think having F8 back would be easier though.

    More: again, even on a non-bootable Win 10 installation you can (try to) enable the F8 option
