Hi Shawn,
I downloaded the official 10074 ISO today, and instead of upgrading from a previous build like I have been, I'm going from Windows 7 after all this month's patches and optional updates to see if the process has at all noticeably improved(was good to start with).
This time I've chosen "C) In Windows 7, you will need to extract the files in the ISO to a new folder on your desktop, and go to step 5 below." instead of using external media such as a USB or DVD. I'm in the process of upgrading right now, but it has worked great. For my Windows 7 laptop I'll probably use this method. And for Windows 8.1 desktop like in post #16.
Microsoft, if anything, has really revolutionized how one can upgrade an operating system. It's even easier and faster than by Ubuntu now.
Thanks again for posting all paths & ways to do something in Windows.:)
