    Hello Dimitri,

I have iaStorAVC as well now. Looks like another change. I'll update the tutorial now.

Thank you for letting me know.

There is a second method of moving from IDE to AHCI that does not involve modifying the registry. In device manager, delete the IDE controller that is under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Reboot the computer and enter BIOS/UEFI setup. Change the controller type to AHCI. On the next boot Windows 10 will install the AHCI driver under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
Thanks for the tip, but I'm afraid it doesn't work on hp laptops. As I said in my previous post, hp BIOS (Insyde) is locked and does not provide the option.
And besides that....AHCI is set by default by hp!!

I have also seen systems eg Dell , with the Bios set to RAID (=AHCI if not used) with only one HDD installed

Without being an hp product manager, I don't think hp laptops support RAID. But again I might be wrong, for some Enterprise laptops or workstations!

I guess these one drive Dell laptops run in RAID -1

the Drives are just non-member Drives and so run in AHCI Mode but I am not sure why they do it this way.

After setting 4 x Zero to the mentioned registry keys, a reboot and the change in BIOS to AHCI, my Win10 works fine (again). Thank you for this guide!

One thing for N00bs like me:
If you get the "inaccessible boot device" blue screen, change the BIOS-Settings back to IDE!
Otherwise you never get your windows up and running and you can't use regedit.exe and follow this guide!

@Brink, I have an HP laptop that does not appear to have any BIOS setting to change the drive to AHCI - so my question is if I go through the regedit steps will I be able to enable AHCI support? I cannot believe this, as my old, old HP laptop supports AHCI!

    Hey Mike @magilla,

Unless it's a really old laptop, it most likely is already set for SATA/AHCI.
