    I'm not sure what may help other than seeing if formatting the SD may.

    Hello John, :)

    That's normal. It'll vary.

    Is there a way for this to be enabled by default for all new devices?

    Hello Bob,

    I'm afraid it's only enabled by default for non-removable (internal) drives.

    I needed this option and wrote a little script to do it for all harddisks in the system. Maybe useful for someone?

    Code:
    For /f "Delims=" %%k in ('Reg.exe Query hklm\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum /f "Disk" /k /s^|Findstr "Parameters\Disk"') do (
        Reg.exe add "%%k" /v UserWriteCacheSetting /t reg_dword /d 1 /f
        Reg.exe add "%%k" /v CacheIsPowerProtected /t reg_dword /d 1 /f
    )
    EDIT mar 2021
    Code:
    For /f "Delims=" %%k in ('Reg.exe Query hklm\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum /f "{4d36e967-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}" /d /s^|Find "HKEY"') do (
      Reg.exe add "%%k\Device Parameters\Disk" /v UserWriteCacheSetting /t reg_dword /d 1 /f
      Reg.exe add "%%k\Device Parameters\Disk" /v CacheIsPowerProtected /t reg_dword /d 1 /f
    )

    I'm a bit confused on the "enable write caching on the device" option that can be turned off even with better performance on. Is there a separate cache on the device than in Windows?

    It really just depends on what type (ex: internal vs removable) of drive it is for which options are available.

    "Better performance" must be selected instead of "Quick removal" to have the "Write-caching policy" settings available.
