    Dear Brink, I forgot to ask you one more question!
    My pc is a laptop,so could the HDD overheat with the ''turn off hard disk after..'' set to never ?

    And would it be a bad idea to have two power plans?Because the HDD will have to turn on and turn off more frequently?
    Isn't better for it to spin non-stop,than frequently turn on/off?

    If it is a good idea to re-enable the turn hard disk off option ,and have two power plans,
    which free software would you reccommend to me to automatically manage two power plans in order the hard-disk to be turned on only while gaming,and turned off for the rest of the time?

    By the way my OS is installed on a SSD!

    Either way is fine, but it really depends on your needs and wants.

    If you wanted to toggle between using two power plans for this, then you could use the context menu added from the tutorial below. There's no need to install any 3rd party software.

    I'm not aware of a way, but the context menu will allow you to manually do so before and after playing games.

    Hi,

    I have an issue on a Windows 10 desktop with a Seagate ST1000LX015 hybrid hard drive, as my secondary drive.

    My primary drive is a 120GB SSD, which is unaffected.

    The drive seems to go into standby mode after about 10 minutes.

    I've tried changing the settings in the the power options/advanced settings with no luck - I tried setting the "Turn Off Hard Disk" to "0", "600" and "999". It made no difference.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello Mike, :)

    Looking at the manual below for the Seagate ST1000LX015, it appears the drive should have its own software to use to change its power management mode.

    Thanks for the info... No luck on the seagate front - all the utilities I can find are for either external (USB) HDDs or are diagnostics only.

Hi. I've found that on both of my pc's (1 desktop and 1 laptop) that the Turn Off Hard Disk After "x" minutes setting changes to 0 or never, usually after a reboot. The Default for my desktop is 15 minutes and for the laptop it's 3 minutes on...
I have a problem where I can't set custom time for hard disk to turn off. This problem occurs when APM is disabled and enabled, so it makes no difference. sfc /scannow shows no errors, I also reset all default power plans through cmd....
I have a portable USB hdd that is not powering down at idle, a few days ago it was working so not sure what's happened. For testing purposes I have set the Turn Off Hard Disk After to 1 minute. I have tried different USB ports as well.
Specs: Windows 10 x64, Radeon HD 7970 Ghz ed 6GB x2 in Xfire , i7 3770k, Samsung 500 GB SSD, 16 GB Corsair RAM, Several 1+ TB HDD. I have a SSD with the OS on it, and several large Seagate HDDs with other files. 1 1 TB, 1 700 GB, and 2 2 TB drives....
