    Can this tutorial be good for win xp and win 10 ?

    Tnx

    Hello,

    It wouldn't be the same with XP.

    I would recommend to run XP in a virtual machine in Windows 10 since dual booting with XP could cause issues.

    You can dual boot XP and Windows 10 if you like.

    It would be best to create a new thread for this though to get the best help with it.

    After 11 years on Win 7 I've finaly made the jump to Win 10 & have a couple of questions, maybe best to explain where I'm at at the moment;

    My laptop was supplied with Win7 Pro OEM installed under "Win 10 downgrade rights" along with Win 10 Pro recovery media. The original Win 7 SSD was removed & Win 10 freshly installed on a new SSD. The Win 10 install is now in use & working fine, but I've discovered that I can't completley ditch Win 7 quite yet.....

    Now that both OS's are installed / bootable & operational am I correct in thinking thats it OK to install both SSD drives into the laptop, that they will not interfere with each other & that I can select which drive / OS to boot from by using F12 at start up?

    7 & 10 are presumably using the same "licence" by looking at the hardware that they are installed on (?), on this assumption would I be correct in thinking that I can continue to use both OS's (not concurrently) without issue?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Hi,
    On a pure technicality you can only use one os at a time so it can be done
    But also ms could deactivate the 7 install if popping back and forth too much.
    If it's retail license doubt it would matter.

    Avoiding CHKDSK;

    That's both SSD's installed & both OS's available via boot menu / F12, but both OS's are running CHKDSK at every start up. I've disabled Win 10 fast start without any change & Win 10 also indicates a disk error warning in the system tray (presumably this is due to the Win 7 disk being visible).

    Other than disabling fast start is there anything that can be done to avoid CHKDSK running?

    Thanks.

    Try running the command:
    powercfg -h off

    It will need to be in a Command Prompt or Powershell with admin privileges.

    This tutorial ends at step #4. Maybe if you specify where you'd like to go or what to do next, we could point you to another tutorial(s) or answer a question. If a specific issue, you should start your own problem thread under the appropriate subject in one of these.
