The stubborn that showed 100% twice seen and then reverted everything back including some other cumulatives and at least one or two security patches is the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3213986)" If you run into this one at all you may want to see that one fixed fast!
Ok mate I shall keep an eye out for it.

Now I don't know about you but I find that Windows fixing up drivers for this and that via an update a bit creepy when we had to do that stuff ourselves back in 7 and XP

Definitely far more so since 7 could run easily with a good many Vista drivers. With 10 in many cases 8.1 not 8 will also work due to the backward compatibily when going back just one version except for the gaps seen like ME-Legacy to 2000 or XP, XP to Vista, 7, and from 7 to anything newer and then between 8 and 10 at the present time.

With 7 however it was much easier to disable things there without too much need for any MS or other tools as far as isolating problem updates. And that's why once you get things set up and running good get to that system image!

You wouldn't read about it have got home eventually and settled back into the routine - cloned the drive got the tutorial up and the OEM (DVD) ready and they have started working on the main copper service.

So am ready but need the faster net connection before I begin

Just harping back a bit when I get this dual up and running is the 7 code going to be wiped if in the event I have to reinstall it?? I need to know to plan ahead for any eventuality.

    Hey John, :)

I would always recommend to write down your product keys, and keep them in a safe place.

Ok Shawn I usually use Google Keep as I was under the impression they used encryption for storing your stuff but am now thinking maybe I could perhaps make a folder in my machines that is encrypted, and use just the one password because to be honest there are so many sites using passwords I often end up having to change them or get a new one that is. The one for Microsoft live is a nightmare one for me it needing a secondary email for the code etc and the outlook.live.com email has now blocked that email address.

Thankfully the net is back on but it is too late now to start the dual boot am going to start tomorrow when I get back from town.

Thanks for your patience and time - you seem to have a never ending supply of that

Well Shawn all is not going well I am using an OEM I bought for this machine and made the partition ready and eventually found the setup.exe. extracted it to the desktop and ran it only for it to go through what I thought was it getting ready to install 10 on that partition and then to get a message to say it didn't support an upgrade??

The upgrade I think the darn thing is referring to is actually a downgrade I am sure is from 8.1 or 10 can't tell from the sticker - I opted for 7 when I bought the laptop which at the time I started making plans for a dual boot.

I have 10 installed on a drive for this machine (same OEM) but swapping it out requires taking o the whole bottom casing as opposed to a simple door. Even so what I wanted this set up for was to to be easily swapped between 7 an 10 to use the two forums on one machine.

But am really disappointed that it isn't going to happen and I am left with a Windows Pro 10 OEM I cannot use for any other machine and as for Microsoft well cannot comment in public eh? .
