Try disabling IPv6 on router if you can and on Windows 10, both in wireless adapter properties, and by using the wizards from here: [/COLOR]https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/929852/how-to-disable-ipv6-or-its-components-in-windows

I found that I was getting supposed internet connection, but no pages showed up, because my router is not correctly configured in firmware to handle IPv6, so it was routing to a null IPv6 address. Once just the old IPv4 was on the local network system, connectivity has not dropped. Recent builds of Windows use IPv6 preferentially. I don't use Homegroups or link local... or network discovery, just plain old IPv4 and all seems to work like it used to!
The router here all along has had plenty of "No Support" for IPv6 as far as the USB WiFi adapter lacking any driver support for anything newer then 7 with the older model as well as the need for the latest firmware now seen at the Linksys support site. http://www.linksys.com/us/support-ar...icleNum=148377

With both the firmware update as well as the updated usb connect setup app now saved to the drives here on the main I can drop them off on the other pc by file transfer if not reopen the support page again for repeat downloads. The remote pc isn't connected by way of the router however only on the 7 side presently with the usb adapter plugged in while 10 connects directly by RJ-45 ethernet to the cable modem. The laptops and the 7 side connect by way of the router. Both 10s more or less stay behind another firewall separate from the router's.

Sorry - have you disabled IPv6 in Windows 10?

If the Windows 10 installation is deaf to IPv6, then it must use IPV4 by default.

Router companies don't talk protocols by default, just throughput and bandwidth because it's bigger speeds that sells boxes.

The portability factor and why it was originally built no longer have the same goals in mind since the portability is no longer any concern due to having a 10 laptop bought a year ago that was being brought along when going to visit someone in care facility. The mini tower was made portable for having a pc onhand I could move from room to room when needed since replaced by now the second laptop first having been a 7 laptop upgraded to 10 that saw the display go doa out of the blue and why the second came about. That area is covered.

The idea of finally seeing both a firmware as well as software update come out however was what the wait had been about since the original and newer updates few seen for that model were mainly XP, Vista, 7 and later Vista, 7 refreshers until Vista's support ended last year. This is why the updates for 10 are now being seen. With or without the router however 10 is mainly connected to the ISP modem's own 4 port hub section bypassing the router entirely. And as far as the IPv6 item I never disable any of that and haven't had any reason to tinker with the network items in either version of Windows. The updates should clear up the not being able to use WiFi on 10 problem there once I get those on.

Talk about some crazy tries for multi-boot lol

I killed 2 of old HDDs since last post hehe fragile I suppose these were the drives I was installing to but
2005 & a 2006 model with heavy use and wipes

getting my 3rd prepped it is 160gb I think a 2006-2007 watch me toast them all I have a 5th old one also messed up clicking away when docked in

I was going to use these on a rebuild from old systems parts I toasted the pcie slot on that one 90% sure, cot a Q9550 best core 2 quad I ran amazing chip only E0 stepping other is garbage, E8400 and E7400 and just realized I won't be able to use my Quad if I swap boards to my evga 680i SE ugh

Been weird for days in and during installs ha

1st day installing 10 - I went windows 10 Pro N since I rarely used media features supply driver errors everywhere, which ended up being my phone throwing most of them N would not install drivers for itnot even with media features added on as it said it needed. In case anyones had same issue glancing this.

    Will be back

With 10 having been out in RTM form now for about 1 1/2yrs. if you haven't already found drivers for older hardwares then you will need to step backwards in most cases to 8.1 updates while some manage to a get a few 7 drivers to work on 10 mostly for the 64bit Windows side of the equation. Old drives clicking away wouldn't be the effort to be trying to install anything on those since they are simply worn and failing since the clicking is the armature arm slapping up against the spindle on the mechanical type drive. SHOT is the general term to use! Toast!, It's History!, etc. as far as being No Good!

Here I ended up swapping up out 5yr. old 1tb Sata 3 drives for a pair of 2tb SAS Server class Sata II due to the durability quality for the long term storage capability as well as increase in the storage/backup area. When the prices on 1tb SSDs start to come I will then likely swap one or both of the 1tb Sata II OS drives still in use on this older build here unless II wait a bit longer for the next build to come along likely before the support for 7 ends but possibly prepping for what comes after 10?

That is if MS stays true to form and does decide to come out with a next version of Windows to follow 10 that yet remains to be seen. It hasn't been quite the 2-3yrs. mark for any such announcement along with MS still trying to pump 10 onto more systems.

Hello Shawn mate I am hopefully going to be able to do this on my travel laptop soon and was wondering just what to do with the drives I have.

The new drive I am going to use (Crucial 750GB) I could use to either clone this 7 drive to or use the drive I installed the OEM copy of 10 (DVD) to for a clone and then add the 7 or 10 to the new drive I will use to use for the dual boot.

I guess I am going to have to create a partition for either the 7 or 10 clone but am not real sure of how to install the extra OS to that dedicated partition.

    Hello John, :)

After you whichever OS cloned to the new Crucial 750 HDD, you could create a new partition large enough to install the other OS to.

Thanks Shawn shall do that I am guessing it will ask me where I want to put the 10 install when I insert the DVD?? as I shall use the 7 clone I think because it would be already activated and save me a lot of mucking around - as I have the code for the 10 on the packaging still.

Just remember that with 7 you still have to contend with the newer Secure Boot factor if you do end up splitting a single drive. Only certain more expensive models offer the dual HD capacity in those only!

One thing to note I should add here is from when not booting into the 7 drive on either "desktop" not laptop which is a recent 10 model note! you may run into problems forcing you to then boot up in Safe mode! The 7 side sitting too long may become fragmented! In fact with the remote as well as primary I now find myself hardly ever booting up in 7 since everything still runs well on 10. It can put you in an odd position for two Windows OSs while a second for another allows for examination of other... VMs for the older Windows OS will save on OEM drive space for sure! Just a thought to pass along here.

Yep, you will be asked to choose a partition or drive to install Windows 10 on during Windows Setup like in the screenshots under step 3D.
