Yes, there usually is. Our issue now, in your case we cannot use the PowerShell's excellent Hyper-V cmdlets to completely remove the traces of old switches because as far as Hyper-V and PowerShell are concerned, there aren't any.

You could check the Event log at the moment of getting that error message in Virtual Switch Manager. Tip: Your last screenshot about the error seems to be named as create-switch-error01.png, check the date created time of that file to see about which log entries you should check in your events, just before the date created time of that file.

I did a good one, eh?!

Well, I should be able to uninstall Hyper-V feature, and everything should go back to the way it was before installing. But hey, that's just my opinion.

EDIT: I can get around the user account problem, by enabling the hidden administrative account and fixing things. There should be a way to fix Hyper-V as well.
    There is...
    A very basic thing even...
It's called make a system imagebefore uninstalling and after installing a driver:):):)
Your Virtual Switch is a driver.

When this has happened to me I've had to re-install or restore. I had no luck with removing Hyper-V role, deleting all network adapters and so on.

For a while it happened every single time I had booted into different OS and back but more recent versions of 10 seem better in that regard.

You could try NSVBind and/or NVSPSCRUB to get rid of the old switch. It works from some people (not me though).

We managed if not resolve Simrick's virtual switch issue but at least to find a totally working (and cool if I say so myself!) workaround in a Skype session just now.

For other users unable to create an external switch but not willing to reinstall Windows to get it working, here's the workaround:
    • Create an internal switch in Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager. An extract about internal switches from the Virtual Switch tutorial on our sister site the Eight Forums:
Internal Virtual Switch: When a virtual NIC is connected to Internal VS it can communicate with other computers and vms on the same subnet but has no Internet access.
    • We then set Simrick's vm to use this internal switch. Network OK but no Internet
    • Only thing missing was to share the host's WiFi connection with this new internal switch:

Internet connection on the vm is now working without issues :).
