My laptop has just decided to update to the CU!

I've used the .reg files to changes the font sizes but I find the font settings don't equate to what I used prior to the CU. For example a previous icon font size of 14 in Display Settings now seems to equate to an icon size of 17 using the .reg file. I wonder if the 'font calibration' is correct?

You may have to play with different sizes if the current screen resolution and DPI may offset.

...... your reg files worked brilliantly :) in fact I've saved them all for future use.

For information... and the previous settings I used in the AU update such as 'Icons 12 Bold' do not correspond in size to the new settings created by the reg files. For example, Icons 12 in the AU update now need to be set to size 14 for the same effect. Same for menus. 9 bold has now to be 11 bold for the same size as before.

I wouldn't like to say whether that is PC specific (or just an observed difference for me) or whether it applies generally.

To not have these settings as standard in the CU update is a MAJOR omission imo and something that MS should address. Visuals are so very important to the look and feel of an OS.

I'm thinking it may have to do with all the work Microsoft is doing with DPI scaling to try and make the text look clearer.
You could be right. These seem to have changed yet again (lol) following the FCU.

Using the same settings as for Creators Update now seems to give slightly different results with the Fall Update (clean installed).

The partition space is truncated... but visually the overall effect is good :) I'm thinking you need some half sizes now Shawn

Hi Brink , maybe you have seen this but I thought you might like to look at this App from WinTools for resizing Icons. Menus , Scroll-Bars etc , it works pretty well, and you can even save .reg files before any Changes and as a Backup too.

    Hi Shawn,
I tried to use your 'Option 2' to increase the size of the text in my File Explorer. I don't know what the size of the text was before but I tried going to 12. However, after signing out & back on again the text now is smaller, so small in fact I cannot read it. So I tried again with 16 this time, but it doesn't seem to have changed at all. How can I get it back to its original size. Thanks in advance for a reply.

    Hello Robin, :)

If you like, keep trying a larger size until you find one that looks best to you.

    Shawn,
I wanted to increase font size in file explorer, instead your tutorial decreased it. When I tried to do it again with a larger number & downloaded it to my 'Downloads' folder I right clicked on the .reg file but there was no longer a 'Merge' selection to choose. Now I'm in a real fix & can't read my text it's so small. Suggestions please!!

It sounds like you may have set a wrong association for .reg files then.

As a test, see if you can use "Open with" to open the .reg file with "C:\Windows\regedit.exe".

If all else fails, you can also do a system restore using a restore point dated before you made the change to undo it.

    Hi again Shawn,
Unfortunately I hadn't set any restore points yet. Also there was no regedit.exe in that string of yours. I have a hard job reading the text, it's so small as well. I tried using the 'Magnifier' but I can't control it with this mouse. I'm using my TV console with a Mini PC.
