Notice that the following is my personal opinion and recommendation, other geeks might suggest something else.

In your case I wouldn't even dream about trying to fix Windows on that laptop. I would backup my personal data and perform a clean install.

Before starting a clean install, a most probably not necessary extra security check to avoid possible activation issues after a clean install: go to Settings > Update & Security >Activation and check that the digital license is linked to your Microsoft account:

If not, if it only says is activated with a digital license (for example if you are signing in with a local account instead of Microsoft account), you should see an option*there to link the license with a Microsoft account.

When digital license is OK, you can do clean install selecting I do not have a product key when key is asked. Windows will then be automatically activated using the digital license.

Thank you for the recommendation. I did verify the digital license. see below
I will go ahead and do a clean install after backing my personal data.

Again, a personal subjective opinion: You are doing the right thing. You will have no issues in relocating Users as in Method One, if you still sant to do it.

Windows 10 is extremely good in finding correct drivers to your laptop. Don't panic if Device Manager shows some missing drivers and unknown devices after first boot to desktop. Let Windows Update do its job, a reboot or two later everything will (most probably) be just fine.
