Notice that the following is my personal opinion and recommendation, other geeks might suggest something else.

In your case I wouldn't even dream about trying to fix Windows on that laptop. I would backup my personal data and perform a clean install.

Before starting a clean install, a most probably not necessary extra security check to avoid possible activation issues after a clean install: go to Settings > Update & Security >Activation and check that the digital license is linked to your Microsoft account:

If not, if it only says is activated with a digital license (for example if you are signing in with a local account instead of Microsoft account), you should see an option*there to link the license with a Microsoft account.

When digital license is OK, you can do clean install selecting I do not have a product key when key is asked. Windows will then be automatically activated using the digital license.

Thank you for the recommendation. I did verify the digital license. see below
I will go ahead and do a clean install after backing my personal data.

Again, a personal subjective opinion: You are doing the right thing. You will have no issues in relocating Users as in Method One, if you still want to do it.

Windows 10 is extremely good in finding correct drivers to your laptop. Don't panic if Device Manager shows some missing drivers and unknown devices after first boot to desktop. Let Windows Update do its job, a reboot or two later everything will (most probably) be just fine.

With regards to finding the right driver, Windows 10 will find a working driver, but not always the best driver. This is particularly true for older hardware.

My motherboard is an eVGA x58 Classified 3 (e770), which contains a Marvell chipset to control my two SATA III ports. Windows ascribes a very old Microsoft generic driver to the SATA III controller, and tests show that it works perfectly fine. Using Atto SSD benchmark, I have shown how the generic driver performs better than a standard Marvell 'optimised' driver in disk benchmarks.

However, the are other drivers which it does not handle as well, namely those of the other chipsets on the motherboard, the video card(s), and other stuff.

Just add a backup, I always run through every insider preview build with a few checks to make sure everything is dry up correctly, for little issues like Fast Start, which makes my computer do strange things if enabled, and I then use Snappy Driver Installer to see which generic drivers Windows has installed that would be better off running more current drivers from the OEM.

It comes with a disclaimer:. Use at your own risk, and research very carefully before just allowing SDI the run of the machine.

I have had this build (with minor upgrades) for 5 years (and 3 versions of Windows) now, so I am pretty confident that I know what drivers I should and should not use. If you plan at all to double check Windows' driver updates, do so carefully, making backups (and I would recommend malting full disk / entire OS backups) as well, just in case a driver install fails / locks your machine up.

Or, to avoid the headaches, you could leave it to to Windows. As I said, Windows will usually find a working driver,. Someone's, though, working and optimal are not anywhere near each other.

OK, had to redo this today because the original raw capture file was damaged beyond repair when my laptop crashed twice yesterday when trying to start editing the original video. This was done fast, not very good video but at least it shows how easy it is to relocate Users folder in Windows 10 Creators Update (video made using build 15007).

Just ask if something is not clear. All feedback welcome!

    Hello,

I've decided to go ahead and do a clean install of Windows and relocate users folder using method 1. See screenshots below:

I checked the recent video "Windows 10 Creators Update - Relocate Users Folders" as well as the previous one. My current build is "14393". When I press <OK>, the pop up windows disappears and nothing else happens.
    Please help.

Your last screenshot shows you have a syntax error, command typed wrong. That's why system is showing you a prompt with correct usage.

The last switch, the one to tell Sysprep where the answer file can be found, that should be /unattend:X:\MyAnswerFile.xml or in your case /unattend:F:\relocate.xml.

You have typed it /unattended:F:\relocate.xml. The highlighted part is too much; although we are talking about a switch to tell path to unattended answer file, the switch name is unattend.

Fix the typo and try again.
