Got it...As the Windows of my computer was bad, I did a clean installation same ...I do not know if this works for updates, maybe @Kari might help us better.Excuse me...
If you perform a clean install and use method 1, it takes updates without any problem, even full system updates (like moving from Creators Update to Fall (Autumnal) Creators Update.
I use method 1 with clean installs and am able to take Insider Preview Updates without a hitch.

Thank you for your replies. I've had a clean install and did the trick after immediately, around 6 months ago. I could get & and install former creators update without any issue but this time there is one or more problem that I'm facing.
Maybe the problem is not linked to this trick, I just wanted to be sure about it.
Thank you again.
I would like to do a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop that is currently running Windows 7. My laptop is already partitioned with Win7 installed on C: and the Users folder is located on D: (same physical disk).
Is it possible to rename my current D:\Users folder (win7) before installing Windows 10 so when I relocate the new C:\Users folder (win10) to D: there is no conflict with the previous Win7 installation? My goal is to prevent having to delete my current 2TB of user data then having to recopy it from a backup after Win10 is up and running. Does this question make sense?
Hi Kari,
Could you please advice how to proceed (which video tutorial and text to follow) when I have a brand new pc and I'm installing the Windows 10 first time with USB stick that contains Windows ten downloaded from Microsoft download page. This thread is now 115 pages long and I'm getting very confused how to do this right in the first time. In this case the Windows 10 Pro version is 1709 OS build 16299.214.
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have done this relocate few years back and now my OS will not boot after an update I have installed a clean windows, how do I relocate again but use the User folder which was created previously and not have it over write it? Is it a case of sysprep again and plug in the hard drive during the reboot for it to see the files on that drive ?
That can be done but personally I do not find it a good idea and cannot recommend it. My recommendation is to copy all personal data to an external disk and format the target drive. When Windows has been installed and Users folder relocated, copy the personal files from external backup back to respective folders in new Users folder.
Terve Risto :)
Just follow the steps told in tutorial, in Method One. Rest of the tutorial as welll as the whole thread is in your clean install case irrelevant. You should not face any issues.
If any issues occur, come back and post about it, we'll fix it.
You shouldn't use existing Users folder when relocating. Although it might work, it would bring a number permission and other issues. New install, new Users folder. See my reply to Sjamie at the beginning of this post.

Hi again Kari,
I'm fully aware that you have mentioned numerous times that relocating the user folder will and have not caused any issues in Windows environment nor with any updates. Would you have any idea why Microsoft advises against doing this in many different Q&A's. They claim that relocating the user folder will cause problems with updates, security and other warnings are told. I have done relocating in one time and my pc worked just fine until some update was issued by Microsoft and after that the PC gave me a death screen -> had to reinstall W10.
Is there any risk of this happening again? I don't have many user accounts in my pc, actually only 2 (admin and user), would there be a "lighter" way to relocate user folder to another drive, eg. changing the register values from default value so that user folders are written in drive D?
Appreciate your time and answer:)

Hi All
I am running windows 10 Home
Version 1709 (OS Build 16229.192)
I have been running this on a HDD
I have now installed onto a SSD
I have created a user on the SSD with the same name as a user on HDD
Is it possible to have the SSD user use the existing user profile on the HDD?
Any answer appreciated
