Oh this will be a long post!

There are two kinds of posts here on Ten Forums that I really hate to reply, from the heart of my bottom bottom of my heart: First, those posted by members I know already when replying (from past experience) that they do not tolerate being publicly corrected, shown to be wrong, that for them it is more important not to be corrected and leave false information as is, than to let it be corrected so other users would not get wrong information. In this category I have multiple examples but to not name any fellow members, let's say I am still almost after a year waiting a screenshot of a strange hybrid user account nobody else has ever seen, and apologies for the insults I got when I told such an account does not exist, or correcting peoples misconceptions on subject of digital entitlement and digital Windows licenses. And so on.

Your post represents that other post type I hate to reply although I know that sometimes I have to, posts from members who go somewhat beyond their knowledge level, thinking the instructions or a told procedures fail, interrupting told chronological flow of actions they are told to follow, when in fact the mistakes done are mostly those by the user.

Do not take this too personally. I feel responsible for my few tutorials, I feel that I have to reply even when I might be forced to formulate my reply so that my good intentions, positive motives and willingness to assist is taken by the OP as an insult.

OK, let's start. First, when Sysprep is run it is kind of "mini repair install". It forces Windows to go through so called OOBE mode, also known as Welcome Mode. IF you have any issues with user profile service, Sysprep in most cases fixes it forcing Windows to set itself up again.

Second, deactivating a user account is never an issue; as long as you can boot to Windows you can always reactivate it.

Third, in no way does this tutorial or embedded videos tell to anything else when signed in with built-in admin than deactivate existing user accounts and run Sysprep. I just can't get it, why didn't you simply follow the instructions when you managed to sign in to built-in admin?

Fourth, when failed to sign in to built-in admin first time, how long did you wait? I've timed that quite often, on mid level i5 Asus laptop it could for instance take up to seven minutes when the built-in admin account has been activated and signed in first time. Most of that time you'll only see a black screen.

Did you really wait long enough, or did you do something not too clever which might cause corruption like forcing your computer to restart with hard reset, not patient enough to wait a minute or two more? Were you absolutely sure that signing in was not going to work?

I could go on but I think I already said the important stuff.

My sincere, profoundly honest recommendation to you is to forget this procedure. Let your Users folder stay on C: drive.

Kari, I really appreciate your time and consideration. In fact, I was upgrading my desktop and my laptop by replacing the HDD by a SSD. The reason I didn't go along with the rest of the procedure for the laptop it's that I didn't encounter any issue when relocating the user folder for my desktop. Everything went smoothly well. On the other hand, the laptop didn't go as expected. To answer your question, I probably waited around 15 min when the Admin went black. Anyway, thank you for your recommendation.

    OK, that's too long.

In case you really have user profile service issues, I would run Sysprep, try if it fixes it. I don't mean relocating Users folder with Sysprep command, I simply mean force Windows to go through OOBE setup.

If you want to try, open Run dialog (WIN + R), enter following command and click OK:

    Code:
    %windir%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /oobe /reboot

All user accounts will be kept and left intact, no worries. No need to deactivate them. The "Dummy" account rule applies, when OOBE setup is run on an existing installation, when it asks to create initial user account you can't use usernames that already exist.

If you do this and if, a big if, if it fixes your user profile service issues, we might even get lucky in trying relocation once again.

It's 2:00 AM here. I decided to run the code "%windir%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /oobe /reboot " before going to bed. See screenshots

After that I tried to create a standard user account but I'm getting the error msg below:

    @Astyx

OK, your machine is really sick at the moment, I am not sure if any medication other than a reinstall will help. Usually from that last screen when you click OK, you'll come to Welcome / user selection screen. Does that happen, can you sign in to other accounts? That would be important only if you have some personal data on that laptop you would like to salvage before starting from scratch.

Another option is to restore a recent system image if you have one.

When I click on <OK>, it takes me to Welcome/User selection screen. It does happen only to any new user account that I create. I have no issue to log into my current account. Couple months ago, after a MS Windows updates, the PC didn't boot up. It was down for weeks. I did everything I could for it to boot up. I guess the issue started at that time. I will probably save everything I can and start from scratch. I mainly use my desktop so I don't have too much stuff on the laptop.
Thank you so much Kari. I'm grateful for your assistance :)

Notice that the following is my personal opinion and recommendation, other geeks might suggest something else.

In your case I wouldn't even dream about trying to fix Windows on that laptop. I would backup my personal data and perform a clean install.

Before starting a clean install, a most probably not necessary extra security check to avoid possible activation issues after a clean install: go to Settings > Update & Security >Activation and check that the digital license is linked to your Microsoft account:

If not, if it only says is activated with a digital license (for example if you are signing in with a local account instead of Microsoft account), you should see an option*there to link the license with a Microsoft account.

When digital license is OK, you can do clean install selecting I do not have a product key when key is asked. Windows will then be automatically activated using the digital license.

Just a heads up regarding Windows 10 Creators Update, the next major feature update expected to be released March or April 2017.

Some of the new features in Creators Update can already be seen in latest Windows Insider Build 15007 released last week. One of the things in this update I really much like is how easy Microsoft has made the relocation of main profile folder Users :)

I finished capturing a video about the process just now, how it's done in Creators Update. Raw video is encoding as we speak, when finished I will start editing it. Video will be posted here later today.

For those of you still in version 1607 build 14393, I wholeheartedly recommend Windows Insider program and opting in for Insider builds. If not on your main computer but do it at least on a virtual machine to see how nice development there has been and will be.

    EDIT:

Emma, my video editing machine don't want to work. I am too tired to argue with her tonight, sent her in her room without dinner. No use to argue with her now.

I know that when she's on that bad mood of hers, crashing constantly to demonstrate she's in charge, it takes a night in solitude and can of compressed air & a repair install for breakfast for her to calm down, apologize and start working again :).

A 24 hour delay, video about relocating Users in W10 Creators Update will be posted tomorrow.
