Yes you can do a repair install without relocating the user folders back, I've done it many times.

Thank you so much for your amazing tutorials! I can't thank you enough for the detailed instructions.
I've followed your advice regarding changing the default users location in Windows 10 and it worked perfectly (moved them to D: drive). One thing though is still giving me a headache...when I reset the PC (Settings --> Updates & Security --> Recovery --> Reset This PC) it recreates the users folder on the C: drive and ignore the relocate instructions.

How can I make sure the user folder always stays on D: drive? By the way, if it worked then it'll be applied on 1800 Windows PC so I really hope that you can help me with instructions to do it that can be included on an image (for deployment).

Reseting a Windows 10 PC will restore everything to defaults. There's no way to reset keeping the Users folder relocated, it will always be reset to default location as everything else in Windows. That's the whole point of reset.

Thank you for the reply. Then I'm not using the reset function at all as I want future installations to keep the folders intact. Maybe I can do that in an image? Can you point me to the closest deployment strategy to achieve that?

Hello Kari, I was attempting to do tour tutoriales but i missed the part of creating an image/file to boot. Is there any way i can recover my pc? Because now just goes through the BIOS screen and says: Windows can't reboot. Please inserta media installation.

But i assume I ****ed it up because I can't leave the image to any of the drives.

Im thinking of reinstalling W10 on the SSD but there is where my importante Documentos files where in so now I need help.

Right now im shaking just forma thinking those will disappear.

Your post does not contain any information about what you tried to do, what went wrong, what error messages you got and so on. It is practically impossible to help you in any other way than suggesting that you reinstall Windows, then get your documents from the Windows.old folder and copy them to your new user folders.

When you reinstall Windows your old user folders can be found on drive C: in folder Windows.old.

Most important: for your own sake, please forget relocating the Users folder when reinstalling. In all honesty I think that's better for you.

Well im going to try and give as much information as I can. I was following your steps perfectly and all went smoothly, except for the fact that i didn't see I had to create a system image to complete the whole process. Maybe a professional or just a normal person with higher knowledge would have noticed it but I didn't. So now im stuck at the point where you reallocate the file unattended answer rile with the cmd command thing. Since there is no image selected the system can't boot and restart the configuration of Windows. I just followed steps on the first video.

Now that im viewing the method 2 you offered, as i have an existent Windows installation, actually what i did is Method 2 but there is a problem that doesn't let me do anything:

When i boot pc (because its a personal-built pc) it appear the usual BIOS screen, then it pops a message saying:
Windows can't complete installation. For installing Windows in this pc, restart the installation

Then what am i supposed to do? All i have is the CD which i originally used to install windows, so i can reinstall it in one drive (by doing a format in there), but the thing is i dont wanna loose any files. Also I tried using the original CD and tried to repaired it but it also pops: Drive selected is blocked, please unlock it so Windows can perform a repair.

For sure i won't touch anything more about User folders but please, i beg for help since im stuck at this point

I have been trying to follow this tutorial and have failed. I used the Media Creation Tool to generate an ISO file. I mounted the ISO file using the native Windows 10 function. I then looked in the sources folder to verify I had install.wim but I did not. I only saw install.esd. Does this process work with install.esd as well? According to the tutorial, it says I need to use install.wim but I cannot figure out what I need to do to get it working.

Using an Asus X205T. Wanting to put the users folder on the d:\ drive which is a 64gb microsd card. The iso is located on a usb drive (e:\) and the iso is mounted as the f:\ drive.

any ideas how to get this working?
