    Hi there

Thanks so much for the tutorial, it worked very well!
I had performed a clean install of Windows 10 on a completely blank machine and typed in the product code, everything was working. After following this tutorial, I made a new user account because the original user account's search bar functionality stopped working (as was detailed in the tutorial). The workaround was to make a new account.
My question is when I try to personalize the background, lock screen, etc. it asks me to activate Windows before personalizing. I already entered a product key from the original install and deleted the original user account. Should I re-enter the product key I used before? Or any other suggestions?
I really appreciate this! Thank you

    EDIT:
So after reading other forums online, it seems that the Windows 10 needs to connect to the internet to verify activation and that it can take up to a few days. What I did was go into Windows settings (Win + I) > Update and Security > Activation and press the activate online button. It said it could not connect to the internet but after about 20 minutes, Windows activated on its own without any further intervention from me!
Hopefully if someone else has this issue come up, this will help them

I have my User files on my F: drive from my windows 7 installation. I want to relink in windows 10. I have an ISO of Windows 10 Pro in my Q: drive. I'm trying to set the user files to D: and then move my user files to that location from F:
    I'm getting this error
Quite often the easiest solution for these simple basic errors is to read the tutorial through before proceeding. That applies to your case now, too.

This quote from this very tutorial, from the last part titled Upgrade (Step 2 Edit Registry):

When running Sysprep on an upgraded Windows you will get an error message about Sysprep not being able to validate your Windows installation, Sysprep will simply not run. Checking the log file you will find out the reason in plain text:
    Code:
Sysprep will not run on an upgraded OS. You can only run Sysprep on a custom (clean) install version of Windows.

Follow the instructions told in the part Upgrade (Step 2 Edit registry) at the end of the tutorial.

    Kari,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my post and make this tutorial. The error message is hidden by lots of useless information in the setupact.log file. I'm not sure how I missed that line in your well documented tutorial. Merry Christmas.

Houston we may have a problem, after Win 10 acting up from the upgrade from 8.1, I did a clean install of 10 a month ago or so, and relocated My Docs to a secondary HDD like I usually do (Thank You Kari). Everything went off without a hitch, (Maybe). When accessing My Documents, I was just opening explorer, and in the left panel clicking on Documents under "This PC". Last week I was having some issues with a game I recently installed, and I had to access its folder in "My Documents/My Games" as advertised by the game's forum. I had no My Games folder, and a sub folder for the game. I then found it under "One Drive" My Documents.
So now I'm wondering why / if everything is being written by programs/apps to my one drive Documents, instead of Documents on This PC. I don't remember changing any settings under Win 10. Not always trusting Ms with its up and down issues with "One Drive", is there a way to changed this.
I also noticed the other day after I added Documents to show under the Windows start, that it linked to Documents under One Drive, and not This PC.

It might be the OneDrive Auto-save setting:

Thanks Kari for a great post. Very detailed and it worked first time for me. Pity I did not see your post much earlier. I have always used the change location tab for each folder individually.
You method is much neater and much more effective. A real professional way to approach the problem. It also spurred me to do some research on the system tool (sysrep) and scripts for the win install process. Hopefully I will put some of this knowledge to good use in the near future.

    Thanks once again.

Hi Jim, welcome to the Ten Forums. I'm happy to hear it worked nicely for you.

I've said this before, I'll say it again, seeing that this was your first post here: The best possible reward for the voluntary work we do here comes from geeks like you joining us just to give thanks. Makes an old angry geek like me smile :)
