Havetried three installs of 10 today and used three different sources of ISO -one I even downloaded fresh this afternoon and even tried it on a stick.

Nowthe original 7 install on the main machine was the Pro version andyet I still get the Home version being installed and any attempt atactivating the install with my 7 key fails.

Sohas the ISO been changedtoone of only the Home version.

Ihave to say the other machines I installed 10 on ran 10 Pro eventhough one was 7 Pro originally the other Home 7. The other thing is that thosetwo machines were originally upgrades - would that have any bearingon my main laptop not installing the 10 Pro?? If so I will install abare bones 7 Pro and upgrade it if that is what it is going to taketo allow the Pro 10 to be installed.

NBDuring the install fromthe disk/s and the stick ISO's I did not get the Here’show steps
    No4
    No7
    No8
Theinstall steps went straight from No1 to 3 then to 5to 6 then to 9
Ieven tried the gatherro method in the tutorial how to clean installwithout updating but it made no difference.
AmI doing something wrong or has the Pro version been discontinued –I just don’t know what to do next.

1st download this program made by one of our members, then check which keys it displays for you. See if it reports any Windows Pro key.

The ISO can install the Home and Pro editions.

The product key you enter will determine which one gets installed.

If you do not enter a product key, then you will be able to select which edition to install. You will then have to activate Windows later after the installation has finished.

Hello Shawn now I did like I posted try using the ISO on disk and USB media but the choice for Pro or Home did not appear as did not the other points I typed in.

I am now doing a clean install of 7 Pro and then going to upgrade it to see if I can get any satisfaction from doing it that way. As it is I spent all day yesterday trying to install 10 after wiping the disk each time and many irritating breaks in our broadband.

I just cannot understand why I did not get that choice between the two versions or those other points because the disk and the USB were made from a fresh download of the ISO yesterday so it isn't as if the ISO was that old.

Everybody just STOP AND TAKE A COUPLE OF DEEP BREATHS - good grief......

    1. There are two reason why the option to install Windows 10 Pro is not given on a clean install. The first reason is that there is a product key for Windows 8 Home (Core) version stored in the computer's bios and Windows setup is reading that product key and using it to install Windows 10 Home with. The second reason is that Windows 10 Single Language was downloaded, which contains only the Home version.

    2. The solutions are easy. If Single Language Edition was downloaded - then go back and download just Windows 10. Not N version, not Single Language Edition, just plain Windows 10.

    3. If there is a Windows 8 Home (Core) edition product key in bios that is blocking the installation of Pro, there are two possible solutions. The first one is just do what Microsoft says to do to upgrade to Pro:
Upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro - Windows Help

    or

Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro

Do the last option on that webpage.

The other solution is to create a pid.txt file. The pid.txt file contains the following:

    [PID]
    Value=VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

Save the pid.txt file in the Sources folder on the Windows 10 installation USB flash drive. With the pid.txt file present, Windows setup will read that product key instead of the product key in bios and install Windows 10 Pro without asking which version to install.

    Formatting USB for W10 ISO

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and just have a quick question. When creating a bootable USB to do a clean install of W10, should I format my drive as FAT32 or NTFS? Or does is matter?

FAT32 is more universal and will boot in more computers.

I guess the reason I am confused is because for larger files (>4GB) I've always thought FAT32 wasn't an options since it's supposedly not compatible, but maybe I am mistaken. I did quite a bit of research online about file formatting types in the past, and I seem to recall reading from multiple resources that for files 4GB and larger it's best to use NTFS. The W10 ISO file that I am downloading is 4.2GB, so I formatted my flash drive as NTFS.

You are correct on all counts except that you don't copy the 4.2 GB ISO file to the USB drive. You make the bootable Windows 10 USB flash drive by extracting the contents of the ISO file to the USB flash drive. None of the files in the ISO image exceed the limits of FAT32.

When you extract the contents of the ISO to the USB flash drive you will get a folder structure similar to this:

Ah. That makes sense. Thanks! I knew I was missing something and my curious mind needed to know why :)

I hope this isn't off topic for this thread, but do you also happen to know why on this tutorial the author chooses to use FAT32 for GPT partition scheme and NTFS for MBR?
