Ok, however, if your OS fails to load, you can go in to advanced options and Reset your PC there. Better idea, easier and (Probably more safer and efficient).

I've just done a clean install on a new SSD in my Dell laptop - I previously had W10 on a HDD upgraded from W8.1.

The clean install was painless and all done in about 10 minutes. I booted from the Media Creation Tool created USB drive in UEFI mode, selected the unallocated space on the SSD and selected next. I was never at any point asked for a product key (the tutorial mentions skip this step) and Windows showed activated as soon as I logged on the first time. I was also not asked "Who owns this PC?". Is that because I signed in with my Microsoft account and it automatically syncs my account details?

    Hey Steve, :)

What build number was the USB? I'll do a test with that build to see if there were changes.

It won't ask you for a product key if you have a digit entitlement for that PC on Microsoft's activation server, or have a valid product key embedded in the UEFI firmware chip on the motherboard.

I'm not sure why it didn't ask you "Who owns this PC?" unless there was a change made.

I didn't grab the build since it very quickly auto updated to 10586.63. I created a new USB via the Media Creation Tool yesterday (14 Jan) so I have the most recent USB installation version.

By the way - do I need the following drivers listed on Dell's web site when using a single Samsung EVO 850 SSD in my laptop?

    • Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
    • STMicro Free Fall Sensor Driver

Yeah, it would be best to install the latest drivers for those from your OEM.

I'll download that build, and test it now.

What edition did you download? (Windows 10 or Windows 10 Home Single Language)

I just ran the version of MCT I used yesterday and enclose the screenshot of the USB install version requested.

    Steve,

I found out what it was. When installing a Windows 10 Home edition, you will no longer see the "Who owns this PC?" screen.

Thanks - could you update the tutorial to point out that Home users already having Digital Entitlement will proceed straight through the installation. The only questions are where to install Windows, the account details and customisation,
