Clean Install Windows 10

I suppose it depends on if you would benefit enough to be worth converting to GPT or not.

Usually, you would want to have all disks other than the OS drive disconnected when doing a clean install to avoid something being done to the other disks by mistake.

Yes, minutes. Maybe it needs a triple click or some special sequence?

Hello Gordon,

Does the Windows 10 installation take you to set up a local account once it gets past clicking on the "I don't have Internet" button, and finish installing eventually?

Are you able to download the network driver from your OEM or motherboard manufacturer's support website on another computer, and install it on this desktop from a USB drive once Windows 10 has finished installing?

OK, that makes sense.
I clicked on "I don't have internet" and that sent me back to a page with this text:
"Let's connect you to a network"
"To finish setup, you'll need to connect to the internet"
I clicked on "I don't have internet" again.
And I got the same pages repeated 5 times, and then it finally bounced me out of the loop and
sent me to Choose privacy settings ...

What is "local account"?
Is that an email account?
Is that a Win10 account?
By the way, I declined giving it my email address.
Maybe that caused a problem, and maybe I should run it with email account.

OK, the clean install finished.
Device Manager shows 8 network adapter items (or are they services?).
ping google.com fails
nslookup google.com fails

When I do an update driver, and point to my driver folder, it says the best drivers already installed.
My local drivers may not be correct.
I may try DoubleDriver or can we figure this out?

By the way, you have to click 4x very fast on the link "I don't have internet".
All other links are normal.

I could not find any tool tips.

Yes, I got a network adapter driver.
When I did the "update driver", it restarted the clean install and gave me a local account.

It was more difficult than normal because the yellow triangle warnings were in "other devices", not
in "network adapter" and I did not see them at first.

I got the drivers from:
Windows Driver Download Center - Driver Scape
They seem to be trusted, I don't like downloading stuff that is not tested.

I think my problem with 4 fast clicks on the "I don't have internet" could be due to my
rather slow CPU on the desktop.

This was a 32 bit install. Probably does not make a difference.

That's great news Gordon.

Yeah, if the CPU is slower and if RAM is low, it could cause it to take longer than usual to get to the next stage of setup.

Normally, you do not need to have an Internet connection to clean install Windows 10 since it will just have you set up a local account by default instead of a Microsoft account that requires an Internet connection.
