I have tried the classic upgrade route from Windows 7 to Windows 10, once the hardware gets it's new HID, you can reactivate Windows 10 every time in that machine. I've done that several times in virtual machines, even there it works.

BUT you have to upgrade first, then you can just skip setting up a key during next clean installs.

    Hello,
So I get to the disk partitions, and it lists 5 of them.

    Which do I delete?

Drive 0 Partition 1: ESP 500.0 MB 470.0 MB System
Drive 0 Partition 2 128.0 MB 128.0 MB MSR (Reserved)
Drive 0 Partition 3: OS 453.2 GB 368.8 GB Primary
    Drive 0 Partition 4 450.0 MB 233.0 MB Recovery
Drive 0 Partition 5: Image 11.5 GB 256.0 MB Recovery

    Thank you.

You need system partitions 1-3. You don't need 4 & 5 if you don't want the recovery tools. Else the oldest one of 4 & 5 can be deleted. Use reagentc /info to work out which recovery partition is set. I also use MiniTool Partition Wizard to explore the file dates of those partitions and delete the oldest.

If you are doing a clean install, delete all of them.

    Hello,

Thank you for your reply, Should I also disable Secure Boot? I am using a FAT32 usb flash drive, and I have UEFI.

    Thank you.

Hello Moony, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I would recommend to temporarily disable Secure Boot until you have finished the clean install.

Good day to you Shawn, @Brink.

I happened to stumble on this and thought I would see if this is correct or not. In the beginning part of this tutorial where it says to disable secure boot and provides a link, but it opens to a tutorial you posted on Windows 8 forum and you have one in Windows 10 forum. Not sure if the link should point to the Windows 10 one or not, but I thought I would check to make sure.

Hello Shawn I just swapped out the original hard drive and installed from a USB stick after making it from the media creation tool tutorial.
Now all went well but I didn't get that activation screen it just installed 10 I thought at first maybe something in the BIOS had automatically activated it but it obviously has not because I cannot Personalize the screen until I have activated it.
I have tried going to Settings and do what I can in there but it does not give me a screen that I can use for activation.
Any ideas mate as I am stuck now with a machine that will boot to Windows and update and all but as I said I cannot access Personalization for example.
