Oh.... Ok. Will try that tomorrow. Hmm... My initial intention was to do that but don't know how I ended up otherwise.

    Hello to all.

This morning I did a clean install with the USB booting and it kept going back over and over again restarting itself with the Install Now page. The process of selecting the drive to install to, the default region and language page, the product key page which I chose "I don't have a product key" repeated 3 times until I decided to give up and pull out the USB thumb drive.

Guess what happened? After I removed the thumb drive, the computer continued with the installation and updates and restarted a few times by itself and prompted me to create password and asked for 3 secret questions where it eventually able to download additional updates and drivers for my connected devices.

As of now, the version of my Wondows 10 is as follows:

    Edition Windows 10 Home
    Version 21H2
    Installed on ‎3/‎26/‎2022
    OS build 19044.1620
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4170.0

What a strange behavior with this Windows 10 installation. I hope no more new surprises anymore. Whew.....

When your BIOS is set to boot from USB drive first, that is exactly what it did, booted from the USB drive first, as long as there was a USB drive plugged in.

But all the Windows 10 files are in the USB drive and the C drive is empty after formatted. It didn't even complete the full process of running the files in the thumb drive. How did it still able to manage to continue with the installation? This part I cannot get it.

The computer only reboots during setup after all the files have been copied to the HDD/SSD needed to complete the setup.

I see. How come it is not prompting to remove the thumb drive so that it can complete with the setup? I removed it was because I was giving up on it already. Pretty confusing isn't it?

After the first Phase of the installation is completed the source disk is not required to continue. If your bios is configured to boot from USB first you have to remove The drive for installation to continue... Windows must boot from the destination drive to complete setup.

When the Windows 10 installation needs to restart, the lack of a prompt to 'Remove any installation media now' has caught many people out... leading them to be caught in the same installation loop as you found yourself in.

IMO, blame the lack of MS UI testers, not yourself for its confusing lack of messages.

No...you aren't the only one. I just built a brand new Intel Alder Lake rig and went through the same confusion about when to pull the USB drive after installing Win10.

RickC is right when he said, "IMO, blame the lack of MS UI testers, not yourself for its confusing lack of messages."

My new baby...a thing of beauty, a joy to behold:

On the other hand, It is like this since an Operating System exist... It goes without saying... So MS probably assume everybody knows that...
