So what is the mechanism that finds all the drivers that were originally installed when the machine was first switched on and Win 10 installed?

I have NOT gone back and read all the posts, so this is just for information purposes.

If you had a Factory Recovery Partition, and wanted to perform a Factory Reset, then all the drivers would be in Factory Recovery Partition, and would therefore get installed automatically. I know that doesn't help unless you want to do that.

If you wanted to keep ALL the existing Drivers that are present on the ONLINE OS, you could use this . . .

    I hope this helps.

I wasn't referring to driver updates.-What I meant was, how does the Win 10 install find all the drivers that originally came with the machine? Are they in a hidden file somewhere that does not get deleted when a clean reinstall is done?

    Tony

Windows does not find all the drivers that originally came with the machine.

A clean install install installs Windows with Microsoft default drivers and very few non-Microsoft drivers.

The end user then installs the non-Microsoft drivers from the computer (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.) or motherboard manufacturers (Asrock, Gigabyte, etc.) websites and / or component manufacturer websites (AMD, Nvidia, Intel, Realtek, etc.)

I will ask Acer how they do it! I have had several comments and none agree!

Yes, did all that so they have opened a support case and then gave me a few ideas which will be followed up - no hurry.

    Shawn,

A big THANK YOU from me for your excellent, detailed tutorial. So many online guides and tutorials don't present all the options (typically, they fail to present the option I want!) but this tutorial is very thorough and covers all bases. Kudos.

I've just clean installed W10 Pro 64bit to replace an erratic W10 Pro 32bit installation guided by this tutorial and the PC is working just fine. In all my time with W10, alterations I've made have never been straightforward yet this upgrade worked first time - couldn't believe it. Your efforts are very much appreciated.
