I went with both downloads for the MC tool while planning the 64bit for a physical upgrade was also looking at possible VM use when booted in 7 rather then trying to stay a new boot entry for 10 in 7's BCD store or a PC Refresh or subsequent clean install as montioned here just to see 7 added into the 10 boot options intending to keep both versions isolated from each other especially with 10 being just out.

I had a previous version namely the 8 Customer Preview cause problems either when added into 7's or the PC Refresh option just new then was given a whirl seeing 7 added in and then in case both versions suddenly stopped running from drive errors. A clean install now since 10 has been activated would be needing the 32bit however since the 64bit Technical Preview failed to connect online from VM!

With the software and device driver problems typically seen when any version is brand new and the wait for Windows ??? drivers to appear sometime from both MS usually in updates as well as for 3rd party sources the clean install to separate drive if not on secondary primary is preferred as an isolated stand alone clean install I can plan on sometime and keep in mind the steps here no less.

A second 7 Pro x64 mini tower is used remotely for monitoring my case now seeing both 10 Pro and 7 Ultimate also in the 64bit flavors runs a remote access program I now need to find out if I need to upgrade to the latest for that as well. This is one other important thing to note here is that with each new version of Windows the need for updating 3rd party programs is a common element to be prepared for. The clean however provides a nice clean start to look over a new version without clutter!

Hi, I'd like to use the MSDN Windows 10 ISO - en_windows_10_multiple_editions_x64_dvd_6846432.iso with SHA1: 60CCE9E9C6557335B4F7B18D02CFE2B438A8B3E2 which is a Multiple Edition ISO (Home and Pro editions contained in one ISO) to do a clean install.

My question is, Since this ISO is multiple editions, how would it determine which edition of Windows 10 I want to install?
Does this Windows 10 multiple edition iso from msdn needs a generic product key to determine the edition (Home or Pro) I want to install?

Or can I just skip key input and I will be presented with the edition selector dropdown list during clean install of this windows 10 multiple edition ISO (even if installing only as trial) and I don't need generic keys?

I hope my question is not confusing.

I agree with going with the clean installs only. It's the way I always do upgrades. But for this Samsung laptop, I had a feeling there might be issues due to proprietary software & drivers not ready for Win10 yet. So I rolled the dice with the upgrade install and so far, so good. When things are more stable with Win10, drivers, and the Samsung software is fully updated to Win10, I'll re-do it as a clean install.

On my mission critical rigs for development work, I always do a clean install. From 95 through 8.1 over the years, clean installs on all rigs...and I've never had issues with any of them ever needing a format or reinstall. All of them were rock solid year after year and Windows never faltered or got glitched up.

On my main rig, I'm waiting till I have a couple days to blow for a clean install, reinstall of all software, data, etc. Then the fine tuning & customizations to make me happy. Always a big job when there's a new version of Windows...I half look forward to it and half don't...ya know.

When going with the iso or option with the Media Creation Tool to download either the single 32 or 64bit media or the combination 32/64 bit you still have the option of choosing which one and which flavor. With the combo the option for selecting either the 32bit or 64bit will be presented and afterwards on the next screen you have the choice of immediate upgrade as far as seeing the USB Installation Key or creating the media in iso image format.

The trials found at MSDN are covered by your paid membership as well as see keys not for 10 at this time but other MS programs like Outlook and MS Word. Office wares, etc. As far as there being keys for 10 those are not actually needed at this unless no upgrade or clean install attempt sees activation on it's own. That can happen when the activation servers get booked solid like the 14 Million or so who did rush for 10!

This is by way of the Win 10 download page where you see the two links for either MC tool where no product keys are supplied unless you have to go to the MS store to find one provided or purchase one which will be some time yet. The activation is automatic in a day or so when leaving the Security & Updates settings on automatic. This is not a trial version of 10 being seen but a Release To Manufacturing upgrade/full install options by way of download either direct by MS page with tool used or by waiting for the update form by way of having reserved your copy and being notified when to install once the download has already taken place.

Here the upgrade went on smooth after the initial attempts were not seeing the same steps provided in the guide here. The sound card worked for a bit thru the automatic download of updates through the upgrade process until suddenly running into an error or two compatibility failures until the manufacturer provided a chart for different model cards some wait until October for 10 drivers. The AV program download trial/purchased download tool failed until the second upgrade to replace the first saw both solved indicating a full clean install generally leaves no room for hangups!

Well you see I am planning on upgrading from Windows 7 to the free full Windows 10 upgrade microsoft is offering.
Now I understand that I need to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and then have Windows 10 Activated after the upgrade.
Then afterwards, I want to clean install Windows 10 which should be re-activated as MS should be able to recognize my Hardware ID.
So basically, the only way to avail of the free Windows 10 is by:
Windows 7/8.1 > Upgrade to Windows 10 > Have Microsoft activate the free Windows 10. Otherwise it won't work. Now after the free upgrade I want to clean install Windows 10.

So now, performing a Clean Install of Windows 10 requires to have a Windows 10 ISO for the installer.
Now, I am planning on downloading the Windows 10 Multiple Editions ISO (which contains both Home and Pro editions in one ISO) from msdn, as the MC tool or Windows 10 Media Creation tool only downloads ISO of one edition - that is either Windows 10 Home ISO only or Windows 10 Pro ISO only.
But, I want to be able to use with other PC with just the one installer, and so I'd like to get the Windows 10 ISO with multiple editions from msdn (en_windows_10_multiple_editions_x64_dvd_6846432.iso with SHA1: 60CCE9E9C6557335B4F7B18D02CFE2B438A8B3E2).

So you mean to say that the msdn iso is not the RTM/Release To Manufacturing build (10240) but is a trial build that is older than 10240?

Also, what I'd like to ask is if during Windows 10 clean install, since the Windows 10 ISO from msdn is multiple edition (both Home and Pro contained in one ISO), how would the installer created with it determine that I want to install the Pro edition? Would there be an option like this during the clean install?Clean Install Windows 10-72qytzj.png

Hello Son, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Usually the product key you enter is what determines which edition gets installed.

Since you are dealing with the free upgrade offer that doesn't give you a product key, it should still automatically determine what edition to install based on the registered activation on Microsoft activation servers for that PC.

    Hi Brink and Thanks!
So if I clean install as trial using this en_windows_10_multiple_editions_x64_dvd_6846432.iso with SHA1: 60CCE9E9C6557335B4F7B18D02CFE2B438A8B3E2 ISO without availing of the Win 10 free upgrade, then I need a product key to be able to determine which edition I want to install? I mean wouldn't I be presented a Window like this during clean install? Clean Install Windows 10-23416d1436122848-windows-10-clean-install-3a_install_windows_10.jpg
and then if I click skip I'll get this Window afterwards?

    Son,

If you use a multiple editions ISO, then yes, you will see the bottom screenshot if you click on "skip" for entering the product key.

You would need to select the edition your free Windows 10 offer activation is for. :)

Thanks Alot for the confirmation Brink! I very much appreciate it!
One last thing though, what if I haven't activated Windows 10 first and I just want to test Windows 10 out and install it as trial, Will the same condition apply that I just click on "skip" for entering the product key. and then I just would need to select the edition of Windows 10 I want to install as trial?

    And also lastly (truly
) do you know if this en_windows_10_multiple_editions_x64_dvd_6846432.iso with SHA1: 60CCE9E9C6557335B4F7B18D02CFE2B438A8B3E2 from msdn is the Windows 10 RTM build 10240?

The only thing I ran into not downloading from MSDN but at the Windows site was seeing first the four options for editions being 10 Home, 10 Home N, 10 Pro, and 10 Pro N. Once you made the selection based on which edition of which previous version of Windows you are running you then come to another screen where you then see three options for the 32bit, 64bit, or both in one download.

Since the size on disk is 5,6gb or so you would need at least an 8gb size flash drive since you can't burn that a single blank dvd. I finally got all three in iso format as well as three flash drives, one being a 16gb and two other smaller ones for each flavor separately. While running the 64bit I still wanted the 32bit iso separately for running 10 on a VM(Virtual Machine) I run while booted in 7 in a 10/7 dual boot here.

Once you have selected 32, 64, or 32/64bit the next screen prompts you to choose between immediate upgrade or media, From there you see the choices for dvd or iso. When selecting ISO the next screen to follow will then have flash drive or iso download as the two remaining options. And then the long wait for a slow download as everybody presently is trying to get 10!

Note the only downloads at this time are RTM since all links for the TP builds are now invalid.
