I believe I did. But to be sure, should I be resetting a General Items folder or Picture folder?

When I did it I decided to reset them all [Option 1].
I don't know anything about OneDrive but it's a Windows-controlled issue so I wouldn't expect it to be any different [File explorer is just displaying folders wherever they happen to be].

By Jove, it looks like the "nuclear" Option 1 worked! I really appreciate you all sticking with me on helping resolve this frustrating issue.
I'm glad it is now all OK.
You might never need to do this again. But if you do ever see the symptoms again you'll recognise them straightaway and have it all fixed within a minute.

Hello @adgorn,
You might also consider using the method in the tutorial below to back up your folder view settings once set how you want them. This way it will make it much easier to restore them if needed.
Backup and Restore Folder View Settings in Windows 10
Excellent advice above! Believe it or not, I just inadvertently clicked on the batch file again and have to re-redo
@adgorn
I agree with Brink but I suggest that, once you have set up your Pictures, Documents, ... default folder views, that you back their folder 'templates' up [my post #25 in that tutorial].
Backup and restore default folder views [post #25] - TenForumsTutorials
If you ever have to set things up again this backup-restore can get the whole thing done in seconds instead of having to do it manually.
The difference is that the tutorial addresses [current] views of [current] folders whereas my suggestion concerns just the 'templates' you have made for the various file types.

I used the batch file in Option 1 and now all desktop icons arrange to the left in a grid every time I log out and back in. Auto arrange icons and align to grid if off. Is there a way to fix this without recovering from backup? Is there a problem with the batch file?
