    In Place Repair in "Diagnostic startup" mode?


    I have a system that will only start in Safe Mode, otherwise in Normal Mode it will Bluescreen. Failing to figure out the problem I would like to do an in place repair.

    The system WILL start in Diagnostic mode. Since the in place upgrade/repair won't work in Safe Mode, will it work in Diagnostic mode?

    Hello Sys,

    I'm afraid not. A repair install can only be performed from within Windows in normal mode.

    Since your PC works fine in safe mode, you might see if troubleshooting with a clean boot may help to ID the issue.

    For some reason this repair install did not work for me. I have system restore, backup, chkdsk and VSS issues, which I haven't been able to fix. I was advised to try this as a fix. So I tried repair install of Windows 10 with Media Creation Tool. Everything starts good, installation files and updates get downloaded. At some point the computer says it will restart. After it restarts, it just keeps rebooting as soon as it passes the BIOS boot screen. Anyone has any thoughts on this?

    Usually when a repair install fails, you'll need to clean install instead.

    It shouldn't make any difference, but you could give the ISO method a try to see if you may have better luck.

    Hi there! My question is if I do the keep everything option, the first option to keep apps and files and data, just to fix the cortana and search function, will my computer be set up the same exact way without having to go through setup process again? Or, will I have to make my computer look the same way again? I have the ISO and am just going to do the ISO way. I cant seem to get cortana back any other way. It was disabled on me by windows updates after i turned it off and it broke the search and nothing helped. I tried all scripts and cant find an easy way to do it. If this works, I could kiss you (JK...) but seriously I would be eternally grateful!
